Initially, he received significant public support, including a GoFundMe campaign led by former NFL player Antonio Brown, which raised over $78,000.

However, an examination revealed inconsistencies in Louis’s account. Authorities steadfast that he was not attending an interview and had left his children alone for over 90 minutes. Witnesses reported seeing the children unsupervised after thier father walked home to their apartment, located less than a mile away from McDonald’s. The police report suggested that even if Louis had been interviewing for a job, leaving a one-year-old without supervision was indefensible.

As further details emerged, public opinion began to shift, raising questions about the initial support Louis received and the responsibility of the GoFundMe campaign now that the full picture was clear. Louis arrived back at the restaurant a few minutes after that.

The investigation concluded that Louis was not at an interview while his children were alone. He told police he had walked back to his apartment complex, a little less than a half-mile away, during that time.

A 24-year-old Augusta man was arrested for leaving his children—ages 1, 6, and 10—alone at a McDonald’s while he attended a nearby job interview. pic.twitter.com/aKoq4plLYU

— Everything Georgia (@GAFollowers) March 31, 2025

Many people heard the initial report about this story and thought a father had had to make an unfortunate decision to leave his children for the ultimate good of his family, but it now seems that was not the case, according to the police statement.

Even if Louis had left his children alone in a public place for an interview, the situation would still be indefensible, considering he reportedly left a 1-year-old without adult supervision.

Now that the details are fully known, will we hear apologies or revisions from anyone who defended Louis? Many rushed to support him, as he faced charges of child neglect. A former professional athlete even launched a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $78,000 by Thursday, according to People. However, subsequent reports revealed more details about the situation. Chris Louis, 24, claimed he left his three children—aged 10, 6, and 1—at the McDonald’s because he believed it was a safe place while he went for an interview nearby. He stated that he had no car and walked to the interview.

However, the Augusta Press reported that police investigations found inconsistencies in Louis’s account; it turned out he was not at an interview when he left his children alone for an extended period. Before these revelations emerged, news of Louis’s arrest had gone viral. The Press noted that former NFL player Antonio Brown set up a GoFundMe page for him as social media filled with criticism aimed at law enforcement and concerns about economic challenges faced by families.

In response to public outrage, Richmond County Police released findings on Wednesday indicating discrepancies regarding Louis’s whereabouts during the time his children were left alone. Investigators confirmed that although Louis had applied for a job near the restaurant earlier in the day, he was not attending any interviews when he abandoned his kids there.

According to police reports and witness statements from two individuals who called authorities after seeing the unattended children arrive at McDonald’s around 4:30 p.m., they were left alone for over 90 minutes before being contacted by their mother via social media around 6 p.m., shortly before she arrived at the restaurant.

The investigation concluded that during this time frame; Louis walked back to their apartment complex located less than half a mile away instead of attending any job interview as initially claimed.

While many initially sympathized with what they thought was a father making tough choices for his family’s benefit based on early reports of this incident; new information suggests otherwise according to police statements. Even if leaving young children unsupervised in public could be justified under certain circumstances like attending an important meeting or job opportunity—the fact remains troubling given one child involved is just one year old without adult supervision present.

Now with all facts laid bare will those who defended him reconsider their stance? It seems unlikely since those quick to rally behind him may feel no need for apologies or corrections now that clarity has emerged regarding events leading up until then including whether donations made through GoFundMe should be refunded considering these developments which have slowed contributions since follow-up stories surfaced Thursday evening showing totals exceeding $82k raised thus far despite ongoing questions surrounding truthfulness behind initial claims made by Chris Louis himself throughout this ordeal

[52804,3967,52805
post-2419646","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-inconsistencies","tag-police","tag-viral-story
["GET
