The language was thrown into Tuesday&rsquo;s procedural rule vote to advance the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act and the No Rogue Rulings Act, among others, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3366390\/nine-house-republicans-votes-against-leadership-efforts-kill-proxy-voting-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">nine Republicans<\/a> joined all Democrats to sink the rule.<\/p>\n<p>After <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3366092\/first-rule-vote-mike-johnson-new-congress-fails-parent-proxy-voting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">his first rule defeat of the 119th Congress<\/a>, Johnson blamed the nine Republican detractors, and leadership canceled votes for the rest of the week to regroup on <span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3366671\/luna-victory-new-parent-proxy-voting-gop-standoff-next-week\/\" target=\"_blank\">navigating<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3366671\/luna-victory-new-parent-proxy-voting-gop-standoff-next-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">  what was effectively a standstill<\/a>. Some House Freedom Caucus members and other hard-liners threatened to hold up floor proceedings if Johnson allowed the proxy voting bill to come to the floor.<\/p>\n<p>On the other side, Luna and her supporters are prepared to vote down rules until leadership lets her bill come to the floor. The Florida congresswoman has argued that she has gone through the proper House channels to call up a vote, insisting that her legislation should be given a &ldquo;fair shot.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Luna has blasted Johnson and her opponents for being &ldquo;anti-family,&rdquo; and she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3364834\/anna-paulina-luna-leaves-house-freedom-caucus-divisions-proxy-voting-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">left the Freedom Caucus<\/a> due to the &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-republicans-ready-closing-pitches-in-race-to-succeed-mcconnell-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Senate Republicans ready closing pitches in race to succeed McConnell - Washington Examiner\">backroom deals&#038;rdquo<\/a>; going on behind her back.<\/p>\n<p>In a lengthy <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/speakerjohnson\/status\/1907520482112569719?s=46&amp;t=vgOs3L9Jdw1koLNS5Z1G3g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">statement<\/a> on Wednesday, Johnson said that he empathizes with new parents and knows &ldquo;firsthand the difficulty and countless sacrifices that come with balancing family life and service in Congress.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That said, all of us have a responsibility to defend and uphold the&nbsp;Constitution and the integrity of this institution, which has stood the test of time for more than two centuries,&rdquo; the speaker said. &ldquo;While I understand the pure motivations of the few Republican proxy vote advocates, I simply cannot support the change they seek.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Johnson added that he was planning to create &ldquo;every possible accommodation&rdquo; to make congressional service &ldquo;simpler&rdquo; for mothers in Congress.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/house\/3366671\/luna-victory-new-parent-proxy-voting-gop-standoff-next-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">LUNA VICTORY ON NEW PARENT PROXY VOTING SETS UP BIGGER GOP STANDOFF NEXT WEEK<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Shortly after Trump endorsed Luna&rsquo;s bill, the Rules Committee announced it would meet on Monday at 4 p.m. to discuss the same slate of legislation intended for this week. It is unclear whether hard-liners will still work to kill Luna&rsquo;s bill.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Florida congresswoman noticed that she was filing her bill as &ldquo;privileged&rdquo; on Tuesday, meaning leadership has two legislative days to bring it to the floor.
