With approximately 92% of votes counted,Crawford led with 54.2% compared to Schimel&#8217;s 45.8%. This election, which has seen spending exceed $100 million, is the most expensive state judicial race in U.S. history and poses significant implications for upcoming midterm elections, particularly regarding congressional map redrawing that could favor Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Crawford&#8217;s win is expected to challenge conservative policies in Wisconsin, including restrictions on abortion and significant labor reforms like the Act 10 law. The election was seen as a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">proxy war reflecting broader political tensions<\/a>, pitting Trump supporters against a coordinated Democrat effort to counter the Republican agenda. High-profile backing for Schimel included significant financial support from billionaire Elon Musk, which Democrats criticized as an attempt to &#8220;buy the election,&#8221; while expressing no similar concerns for their own wealthy benefactors.<\/p>\n<p>Crawford&#8217;s victory has stirred disappointment among conservatives, who fear that it will lead to the erosion of hard-won rights and policies in Wisconsin. Additionally,in a related statewide race,Jill Underly,the far-left superintendent of education,also emerged victorious against GOP-backed candidate Brittany Kinser.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Wisconsin&rsquo;s Supreme Court will stay in the hands of liberals for the foreseeable future after far-left Dane County Judge <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Susan_Crawford_(Wisconsin)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Susan Crawford<\/a> handily beat conservative Waukesha County Judge <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Brad_Schimel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Brad Schimel<\/a> in Tuesday&rsquo;s nationally watched election.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With about 92 percent of the votes tallied, Crawford was leading Schimel by more than 8 percentage points &mdash; 54.2 percent to 45.8 percent &mdash; and was projected to have won the $100 million-plus contest, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/elections\/results\/2025\/04\/01\/wisconsin-supreme-court\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to<\/a> the Washington Post.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It felt like a cruel April Fool&rsquo;s Day joke to pro-life conservatives, big-government reformers, and election-integrity advocates, among others on the right. And Crawford&rsquo;s win has deep ramifications for next year&rsquo;s midterm elections and the Democrats&rsquo; chances of taking back the U.S. House of Representatives and hobbling President Trump&rsquo;s agenda.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Much at Stake<\/h2>\n<p>The Supreme Court race is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wispolitics.com\/2025\/250328report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">estimated to top $100 million<\/a> in spending, making it by far the most expensive state judicial race in U.S. history. The totals could double the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wispolitics.com\/2023\/wispolitics-tracks-56-million-in-spending-on-wisconsin-supreme-court-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">$56 million<\/a> spent on the previous record holder: the 2023 Wisconsin Supreme Court race.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There was, of course, much at stake &mdash; in Wisconsin and nationally. <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/26\/hakeem-jeffries-counting-on-leftist-wi-supreme-court-candidate-to-deliver-house-for-democrats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Democrats<\/a> have salivated over the likelihood that a liberal-led court could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wi-university-english-chair-accused-of-election-day-disorder\/\" title=\"WI University English Chair Accused Of ... Day Disorder\">approve redrawn congressional maps<\/a> with a significant Democrat tilt, giving the left an enhanced shot at taking back the House in next year&rsquo;s midterms. The Crawford campaign was hit with an <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/27\/complaint-accuses-far-left-wi-supreme-court-candidate-of-crossing-ethics-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ethics complaint<\/a> after the liberal judge was the featured speaker on a big-donor advisory Zoom call that dangled the tantalizing possibility.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;[W]inning this race could also result in Democrats being able to win two additional US House seats, half the seats needed to win control of the House in 2026,&rdquo; the call&rsquo;s email invitation enticed. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But the continued 4-3 liberal majority is also expected to bring some devastating blows to hard-fought conservative policies put in place over the past decade and a half in Wisconsin. The state law dramatically limiting abortion and checking the left&rsquo;s push for abortion-on-demand will be gone. So, too, perhaps, the state&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maciverinstitute.com\/research\/act-10-savings-top-35-billion-in-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Act 10 law<\/a>, which curtailed public sector collective bargaining and big public sector labor unions from devouring tax dollars.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Proxy War<\/h2>\n<p>The Wisconsin race in many ways represented the first real electoral test of Trump&rsquo;s support in the opening months of an ambitious second administration. Democrats certainly are painting it as much &mdash; with a very broad brush. The election also became a proxy war between supporters of Trump 2.0 and a Trump-hating left that has shown it will literally stop at nothing to stop the Republican president.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And one of Trump&rsquo;s top advisers, tech titan Elon Musk.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once the darling of the climate change cult for his innovative electric vehicles, the multibillionaire Tesla founder has been vilified by liberals for working with Trump to right-size a bloated federal government. In the wake of his advisory role with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk has been hit with an<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/03\/28\/leftist-wi-supreme-court-candidate-endorsed-by-radical-tesla-protest-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> all-out attack<\/a> on his Tesla stock and Tesla dealerships and EVs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The X owner and SpaceX creator has personally donated at least $3 million to the cause of backing Schimel, while his political action committees have spent some $17 million supporting the conservative candidate, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpr.org\/news\/billionaires-wisconsin-supreme-court-election-crawford-schimel-musk-soros-pritzker-uihlein\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reports<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Democrats have attacked the record expenditures, insisting that the billionaire was trying to &ldquo;buy the election.&rdquo; They have had no problems with their billionaires &mdash; Democrat Party and leftist cause sugar daddies like George Soros and Reid Hoffman &mdash; dropping millions of dollars in support of Crawford.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Growing up in Chippewa Falls, I never could have imagined that I would be taking on the richest man in the world for justice in Wisconsin,&rdquo; Crawford said in her victory speech, referring to Musk, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/wisconsin-supreme-court-elon-musk-trump-8fe006c7f8fa40b663eccd6751bada98\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according to the Associated Press.<\/a> &ldquo;And we won.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives say the loss will be deeply felt.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Tonight&rsquo;s results are disappointing and a blow for human rights and the rule of law. We mourn the lives that will be lost and the women and girls who will be harmed under a Wisconsin Supreme Court with an activist liberal majority,&rdquo; Kelsey Pritchard, political communications director of&nbsp; Women Speak Out PAC, a partner of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said in a<a href=\"https:\/\/sbaprolife.org\/newsroom\/press-releases\/wso-statement-on-wi-supreme-court-race\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> statement.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Republican voters should heed this race as a warning on becoming complacent following the wins last November,&rdquo; Pritchard added. &ldquo;We must be engaged as we enter the mid-terms and show up to the polls next year so that the Trump Administration&rsquo;s progress is not reversed, and Democrats cannot fulfill the abortion lobby&rsquo;s agenda for the elimination of parental rights and all-trimester abortion funded by the taxpayer.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In Wisconsin&rsquo;s other pivotal statewide race, Jill Underly, the far-left superintendent presiding over the state&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-testing-shows-just-how-much-shuttering-schools-failed-students\/\" title=\"Federal Testing Shows Just How Much Shuttering Schools Failed Students\">failed public education system<\/a>, defeated Brittany Kinser, supported by the GOP, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/5226217-jill-underly-wisconsin-superintendent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Decision Desk HQ projected.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Matt Kittle is a senior elections correspondent for The Federalist.
