\t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps more disconcertingly, it appears that Batts was led through security by a member of Congress, at least according to what Capitol Police claimed.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox5dc.com\/news\/senator-cory-booker-staffer-arrested-carrying-pistol-capitol-grounds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTTG<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/historic-117-year-old-portland-church-to-be-demolished-after-arson-attack\/\" title=\"Historic 117-Year-Old Portland Church To Be Demolished After Arson Attack\">local authorities stated<\/a> that, &ldquo;a Member of Congress led an IDed staff member around security screening at the Hart Senate Office Building.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Batts, who has been a member of Booker&rsquo;s team since 2006, is a former law enforcement officer.<\/p>\n<p>Capitol Police stressed to Newsweek that Batts&rsquo; former vocation still didn&rsquo;t give him the right to carry the pistol.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;All weapons are prohibited from Capitol Grounds, even if you are a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">retired law enforcement officer<\/a>, or have a permit to carry in another state or the District of Columbia,&rdquo; authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>Batts&rsquo; arrest comes the same day Booker made history on the Senate floor.<\/p>\n<p>The embattled New Jersey senator officially broke the record for the longest speech on the Senate floor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/cory-booker-yammers-20-hours-straight-attempt-disrupt-normal-business-us-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when he spoke<\/a> for over 25 hours between Monday evening and Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/sen-cory-booker-holds-hours-long-overnight-speech-taking-aim-trump-adm-rcna199014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According<\/a> to NBC News, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ap-sens-warren-booker-test-positive-covid-breakthrough\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Booker<\/a> took to the Senate floor at approximately 7 p.m. ET on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this spectacle, as put by Booker himself, was to disrupt &ldquo;the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The speech from Booker was singularly anti-President Donald Trump, while also providing opposition to Trump&rsquo;s administration.<\/p>\n<p>Booker would eventually speak &mdash; with the occasional break to yield to his allies to speak, but without abdicating his position &mdash; for a record-setting 25 hours and four minutes.<\/p>\n<p>As pointed out by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/04\/01\/booker-sets-record-for-longest-senate-speech-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a>, that shattered the record set by former South Carolina Sen.
