Jimmy Patronis is projected to win against Democrat Gay Valimont in the 1st Congressional District, a seat that became vacant following the resignation of former Rep. Matt Gaetz. In the 6th Congressional district, Republican state Senator Randy Fine is also projected to defeat Democrat Josh Weil after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/italian-govt-strips-unvaccinated-of-freedoms-over-christmas-holidays\/\" title=\"Italian Govt Strips Unvaccinated of Freedoms over Christmas Holidays\">concerns arose<\/a> about his relatively weak candidacy. Despite the challenges, Fine&#8217;s victory helps solidify the GOP&#8217;s standing, contributing to a current House majority of 218-213, with vacancies due to the deaths of two Democratic representatives. Located in the Florida Panhandle, the district&rsquo;s residents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-elections\/florida-president-results\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overwhelmingly<\/a> supported President Donald Trump over former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2128930613\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The seat was left open following the resignation of former Rep. Matt Gaetz, who stepped down after being nominated by Trump to serve as attorney general. Gaetz ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/22\/want-better-republicans-stop-sitting-out-primaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">withdrew<\/a> his nomination to the position after facing resistance from several GOP senators reportedly opposed to his confirmation. <\/p>\n<p>The GOP is also projected to win the race for the House seat vacated by Mike Waltz, who resigned to serve as Trump&rsquo;s national security advisor. With more than 95 percent of votes tabulated as of publication, Republican state Sen. Randy Fine is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2025\/04\/01\/us\/elections\/results-florida-special.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">projected<\/a> to defeat Democrat Josh Weil in the battle for Florida&rsquo;s 6th Congressional District.<\/p>\n<p>Fine&rsquo;s seemingly lackluster candidacy and Weil&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/5226000-florida-republican-randy-fine-special-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">significant fundraising advantage<\/a> prompted <a href=\"https:\/\/amp.cnn.com\/cnn\/2025\/03\/27\/politics\/randy-fine-florida-special-election\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> concerns within conservative circles ahead of Tuesday&rsquo;s race that the election in CD-6 could be closer than originally anticipated.<\/p>\n<p>While preliminary results show Fine winning the seat by 14 points, the margin is significantly smaller than those put up by Trump and Waltz during the 2024 election. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/campaign\/5226000-florida-republican-randy-fine-special-election\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Hill<\/a>, the latter two Republicans won their respective races in the district by more than 30 points.<\/p>\n<p>Fine was notably one of several Florida GOP lawmakers who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/04\/nobody-is-buying-the-garbage-immigration-bill-florida-republicans-are-selling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fought<\/a> efforts by Gov. Ron DeSantis to adopt laws assisting the Trump administration&rsquo;s deportation operations earlier this year. The soon-to-be former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/waffle-arizona-house-speaker-claims-they-cant-enforce-constitution-wont-commit-to-calling-legislative-hearing\/\" title=\"WAFFLE: Arizona ... Speaker Claims They Can\u2019t Enforce Constitution, Won\u2019t Commit To Calling Legislative Hearing\">state senator<\/a> instead sided with the state&rsquo;s GOP legislative leadership&rsquo;s proposal, which <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">included significantly weaker provisions<\/a> than those requested by the governor.<\/p>\n<p>After a weeks-long back and forth, DeSantis and the legislature struck an <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/11\/desantis-florida-legislature-strike-agreement-to-expedite-trumps-deportation-operations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">agreement<\/a> that contained many of the proposals the governor initially asked for. DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/floridaphoenix.com\/2025\/02\/13\/florida-legislature-passes-immigration-bills-the-governor-is-expected-to-sign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed<\/a> the measures into law in February. <\/p>\n<p>Both Fine and Patronis will now join Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill and help expand the GOP&rsquo;s slim House majority.
