The piece revealed that Goldberg had unintentionally been added too a group chat with high-ranking officials, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Vice President J.D. Vance, where they discussed military actions against Houthi rebels in Yemen. The initial framing of the situation suggested that sensitive “war plans” had been leaked, leading to calls for accountability, particularly directed at Waltz and Defense Secretary pete Hegseth.

However, as the situation evolved, it became clear that the group chat contained none of the critical details one would expect in an operational plan, such as sources, methods, or specific locations.Tulsi Gabbard, a participant in the chat, clarified this during a House Intelligence Committee hearing, emphasizing that the chat did not contain classified facts.

Despite the initial outrage, critics argue that the escalating scandal is disproportionate, with many suggesting that “Signalgate” lacks the substance typically associated with a true scandal. The piece concludes by pointing out that even The Atlantic revised its own language from “war plans” to “attack plans,” indicating a shift in the perceived severity of the situation. The author urges that this incident should not be treated as a notable scandal, as no sensitive military information was actually compromised.

I’m not sure Signalgate even deserves the suffix “-gate,” inasmuch as the scandal was revealed in an article in The Atlantic on Monday, and by Wednesday, pretty much everyone was searching for new angles on it.

Anything that peters out in 48 hours definitionally shouldn’t deserve invoking the spiritual connection to Watergate; I’ve had cases of mild food poisoning that have lasted longer than this, and Signalgate bears a striking metaphorical similarity to those periods of malady inasmuch as both were neither 1) good nor 2) anywhere near fatal.

So, in case you’ve been away at a hermitage since Sunday and are just emerging from your monastic retreat: On Monday, author Jeffrey Goldberg’s piece “The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans” was published in The Atlantic.

As I’ve stated before, the story is basically in the title, but TL;DR: Through some sort of zany mishap, Goldberg — a noted critic of President Donald Trump and his administration — was added by accident to a <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/watch-gabbard-debunks-war-plans-falsehood-in-under-30-seconds-with-expert-testimony/" title="Watch: ... Any issue that fizzles out within 48 hours shouldn’t be linked to Watergate; I’ve experienced mild food poisoning that lasted longer than this situation, which shares a metaphorical resemblance to those brief illnesses—neither significant nor life-threatening. In case you’ve been secluded since Sunday: On Monday, Jeffrey Goldberg’s article titled “The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans” was published in The Atlantic. As I mentioned earlier, the story is essentially summarized in its title; however, to condense it: due to an unusual error, Goldberg—a known critic of President Trump—was mistakenly added to a small group chat discussing plans for a military strike against Houthi rebels in Yemen. This chat included National Security Advisor Mike Waltz (who seemingly invited Goldberg), Vice President J.D. Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and other senior officials.

By Monday afternoon, there were widespread calls for accountability from various officials—especially targeting Waltz and possibly Hegseth. Hegseth himself stated emphatically that “Nobody was texting war plans,” adding nothing further on the matter. On Wednesday, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard appeared before the House Intelligence Committee and explained during her exchange with Rep. Greg Steube why this incident wasn’t as scandalous as Goldberg suggested: Steube asked if any sources were mentioned in the Signal chat; Gabbard replied no. He continued asking about methods or locations discussed; again she answered no each time. He concluded by asking if this meant their discussion wasn’t classified due to lacking sensitive information—and she affirmed it depended on the Defense Secretary’s judgment but noted Democrats’ claims about classified content were unfounded.

Gabbard emphasized there were no names or operational details shared within the chat—elements typically found in actual operational plans—which she would know well given her background as a veteran and her roles on various congressional committees related to defense and security.

It seems even The Atlantic recognized this discrepancy when they altered their language while publishing the full Signal chat later on Wednesday from “war plans” to “attack plans.” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pointed out this shift as an attempt at wordplay.

I want to stress that I’m not suggesting what occurred was acceptable or trivial—but labeling it with a “-gate”? Definitely not warranted. Unless Goldberg has more substantial evidence hidden away somewhere, Gabbard’s responses should effectively close this non-event chapter. The initial framing was misleading; so too was the outrage surrounding it—and now even The Atlantic is revising its terminology regarding what information they had access to—which speaks volumes about how sensitive that information truly is

[548,33651
52271,5201,52265,3927,52094
post-2416380","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-conservative-news-daily","category-the-western-journal","tag-30-seconds","tag-debunking","tag-expert-testimony","tag-gabbard","tag-war-plans
["GET
