The article suggests that the term “gate,” commonly used to denote scandals, might be inappropriate here as the controversy dissipated within 48 hours. Goldberg was included in a group chat with high-ranking officials, including National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, where military strategies were apparently discussed.

Critics quickly called for accountability, particularly targeting Waltz and Hegseth, but Gabbard, a member of the House Intelligence committee, clarified in congressional hearings that the chat contained no classified details such as sources, methods, or locations, suggesting the conversation was not as significant as portrayed. This breakdown undermines the initial allegations of a major scandal. The article concludes that the reaction to the situation was exaggerated and that the essential elements that would classify discussions as classified military plans were lacking, highlighting a mismatch between the initial framing and the actual content of the chat.

I’m not sure Signalgate even deserves the suffix “-gate,” inasmuch as the scandal was revealed in an article in The Atlantic on Monday, and by Wednesday, pretty much everyone was searching for new angles on it.

Anything that peters out in 48 hours definitionally shouldn’t deserve invoking the spiritual connection to Watergate; I’ve had cases of mild food poisoning that have lasted longer than this, and Signalgate bears a striking metaphorical similarity to those periods of malady inasmuch as both were neither 1) good nor 2) anywhere near fatal.

So, in case you’ve been away at a hermitage since Sunday and are just emerging from your monastic retreat: On Monday, author Jeffrey Goldberg’s piece “The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans” was published in The Atlantic.

As I’ve stated before, the story is basically in the title, but TL;DR: Through some sort of zany mishap, Goldberg — a noted critic of President Donald Trump and his administration — was added by accident to a <a href="https://www.conservativenewsdaily.net/breaking-news/watch-gabbard-debunks-war-plans-falsehood-in-under-30-seconds-with-expert-testimony/" title="Watch: ... Events that fizzle out within 48 hours hardly merit a comparison to Watergate; I’ve experienced mild food poisoning that lasted longer than this situation. Signalgate is metaphorically similar to those brief illnesses since neither was particularly significant or dangerous. For those who may have missed it, on Monday, Jeffrey Goldberg’s article titled “The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans” was published in The Atlantic. Essentially, the title summarizes the story: due to an error, Goldberg—an outspoken critic of President Trump—was mistakenly included in a group chat discussing military actions against Houthi rebels in Yemen. This chat included high-ranking officials like National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and Vice President J.D. Vance.

By Monday afternoon, there were calls for accountability from various quarters, especially aimed at Waltz and possibly Hegseth. Hegseth himself stated emphatically that “Nobody was texting war plans,” adding nothing further on the matter. On Wednesday, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard testified before the House Intelligence Committee and clarified why this incident wasn’t as scandalous as Goldberg suggested: when asked if any sources or methods were mentioned in the Signal chat, she confirmed they were not.

Gabbard pointed out that without specific details such as sources or locations mentioned in the chat, it couldn’t be classified information—a point reinforced by Rep. Greg Steube’s questioning about operational plans typically containing such details.

Given Gabbard’s extensive experience—including her military service—it’s reasonable to expect she understands what constitutes operational plans for military actions well enough to dismiss claims made by Goldberg and his team at The Atlantic when they later adjusted their language from “war plans” to “attack plans.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt noted this shift as an attempt at wordplay.

While I’m not suggesting what occurred was acceptable or trivialize its implications entirely; labeling it with a “-gate” designation seems excessive. Unless Goldberg has more substantial evidence hidden away, Gabbard’s responses should effectively close this non-event chapter since both initial claims and subsequent outrage appear unfounded—and even The Atlantic is revising its narrative regarding what information it actually had access to

[33651
27732,52265,51130,52094
post-2416350","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-western-journal","tag-debunk","tag-expert-testimony","tag-gabbard-2","tag-war-plans
["GET
