\t\t\t\t}); \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>He was facing a challenge from John Gomes in the 2023 Democratic primary.<\/p>\n<p>A court-ordered rematch saw Ganim emerge victorious, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/bridgeport-mayor-ballots-ganim-gomes-dc07b337fc5cfff93c6f3d067accd759\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>In total, there have been over 150 election-related charges filed against five Democratic officials amid the 2023 scandal, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ctmirror.org\/2025\/03\/21\/bridgeport-voter-fraud-charges-ct-election-changes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Connecticut Mirror<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sampson and Harding, meanwhile, said that SB 1515 and SB 1516, which are both meant to address elections, are insufficient to solve the problem.<\/p>\n<p>The former law would create an accountability board to provide additional oversight of local <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/colorado-election-clerk-69-jailed-trying-prove-election-fraud-may-die-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">elections<\/a> and referendums.<\/p>\n<p>The latter would &ldquo;expand certain post-election procedures&rdquo; with respect to ballot returns, as well as regulate &ldquo;curbside voting.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That bill is a response to a complaint filed against Alfredo Castillo, a Bridgeport city councilman spotted in a car with voters as they filled out their ballots, according to the Mirror.<\/p>\n<p>He was recorded allegedly soliciting votes from people waiting in the curbside voting line.<\/p>\n<p>The reforms would also stop anyone found guilty of an election-related <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/secure-election-ever-21-2020-mail-voters-admit-participating-election-fraud-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">crime<\/a> from activities like circulating candidate petitions or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/more-suspicious-elections-absentee-data-from-detroit-36-of-absentee-ballots-returned-were-from-people-who-were-not-listed-as-being-sent-an-absentee-ballot\/\" title=\"More Suspicious Elections Absentee Data from Detroit: 36% of Absentee Ballots Returned Were From People Who Were Not Listed as Being Sent an Absentee Ballot\">absentee ballot applications<\/a> for as many as 12 years.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican lawmakers nevertheless told Fox News that &ldquo;we have Democrats from Bridgeport traveling to the capitol to push for the state and individual campaigns to be removed from the absentee ballot process.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Empowering the state government in this area is not the solution,&rdquo;
