Friday the development of a new 6th generation fighter jet program. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;At my direction, the United States Air Force is moving forward with the world&rsquo;s first 6th generation fighter jet,&rdquo; Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DODResponse\/status\/1903109543522914363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/live\/-kH1norcacY?feature=shared\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press conference<\/a>. &ldquo;Nothing in the world comes even close to it, and it&rsquo;ll be known as the F-47.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1905703453\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The president described the new program as &ldquo;something, the likes of which, nobody has seen before in all of the attributes of a fighter jet,&rdquo; and noted that &ldquo;there&rsquo;s nothing anything even close to it, from speed to maneuverability &hellip; to payload.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This has been in the works a really long time,&rdquo; he added. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div According to <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2025\/03\/boeing-wins-sixth-gen-fighter-ngad-air-force-lockheed-loss-trump-hegseth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Breaking Defense<\/a>, this ends Lockheed Martin&rsquo;s &ldquo;status as the sole prime contractor producing stealth fighters in the West &mdash; namely the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The president declined to specify what the program would cost, citing concerns that doing so could indicate to America&rsquo;s adversaries the size of the jets and &ldquo;some of the technology&rdquo; they&rsquo;d be using. <\/p>\n<p>Attending Friday&rsquo;s press conference was Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RapidResponse47\/status\/1903110938640695520\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">noted<\/a>, &ldquo;This is a big day for our warfighters, a big day for our country, [and] a big day for our world.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Mr. President, because of your leadership, your clarity &hellip; America is going to have generations in the future of air dominance because of this sixth-generation fighter,&rdquo; Hegseth said. This program &ldquo;sends a very direct, clear message to our allies that we&rsquo;re not going anywhere and to our enemies that we will be able to project power around the globe, unimpeded, for generations to come.&rdquo; <\/p>\n<p>The president also took time during Friday&rsquo;s presser to highlight the boost in recruitment numbers the military has experienced since his election in November. With the exception of the Marine Corps, all branches <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/27\/americas-military-cant-endure-another-four-years-of-democrat-rule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">struggled<\/a> to meet their recruiting targets under Joe Biden&rsquo;s presidency. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the Army <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/05\/us-news\/us-army-recruiting-shatters-record-after-trump-election-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">revealed<\/a> its December 2024 recruiting totals were the most the branch has seen for that month in 15 years. A similar record was experienced by the Army in January, ABC News <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/military-officials-recruiting-off-strong-start-2025-building\/story?id=119762980\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/14\/marine-corps-on-track-to-hit-2025-recruiting-targets-official-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marine Corps<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/military-officials-recruiting-off-strong-start-2025-building\/story?id=119762980\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Navy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airandspaceforces.com\/air-force-2025-recruiting-goals-trending\/#:~:text=The%20Air%20Force%20has%20expanded,right%20now%2C%E2%80%9D%20Amrhein%20said.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Air Force, and Space Force<\/a> also appear to be on track to surpass their respective 2025 recruiting targets. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">   Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
