Heathrow offers flights to over 230 destinations around the globe.<\/p>\n<p>The cause of the fire remains unknown as the Metropolitan Police&rsquo;s counter-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/terrorism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">terrorism<\/a> unit is leading an investigation into the incident.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fire at the North Hyde Electricity Substation involved a transformer comprising 25,000 liters of cooling oil that was fully lit, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/live\/cly24zvvwxlt?at_format=link&amp;at_link_type=web_link&amp;at_medium=social&amp;at_ptr_name=twitter&amp;at_campaign=Social_Flow&amp;at_link_origin=BBCBreaking&amp;at_link_id=8E3A9700-0648-11F0-AF78-9C5FEEAC1666&amp;at_campaign_type=owned&amp;at_bbc_team=editorial&amp;post=asset%3Ae90969c5-7d23-42d7-8c37-1cb5cbf714c2#post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">BBC News<\/a>. The effects of the power outage were widespread, leading to thousands of passengers being diverted to airports including in Amsterdam, the closure of multiple schools in Hayes, and affecting businesses and homes in the area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed concern that the outage was &ldquo;causing distress and disruption, especially for those traveling or without power in their homes,&rdquo; and said in a post to X on Friday he was &ldquo;receiving regular updates&rdquo; about the fire at Heathrow.<\/p>\n<p>Jonathan Smith, the deputy commissioner for the London Fire Brigade, said in a briefing Friday morning that 29 people from neighboring properties were evacuated over the fire. And that begs some serious questions,&rdquo; Walsh, who is also the director general of the International Air Transport Association, said in a statement. &ldquo;Firstly, how is it that critical infrastructure &mdash; of national and global importance &mdash; is totally dependent on a single power source without an alternative.
