The latest price is five cents per gallon higher than Tuesday&rsquo;s $3.078 fuel cost.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The increases at the pumps come just days after President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a> and his administration touted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/articles\/2025\/03\/president-trump-is-delivering-needed-economic-relief\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">cheaper gas prices<\/a> throughout the country. Technically, this is still true, given that, even with the recent increase in gas prices in the last few days, costs are still less expensive than a month ago when a gallon of regular gas was $3.162. However, this might have never been truer than over the last few years when the price of gas soared during the Biden administration. After the price for a gallon of regular gas averaged $2.476 during Trump&rsquo;s first term between Jan. 2017 and Jan. 2021, fuel costs jumped to over $3 per gallon beginning in June 2021.<\/p>\n<p>It became even worse the longer Biden was in office. About 18 months into his presidency, gas prices hit a record high of over $5 per gallon, hitting the pricepoint of $5.032 per gallon, according to the U.S. Energy Information Association. This was the highest mark for a gallon of regular gas in the country&rsquo;s history. The following month, the average price dropped to $4.92 per gallon for regular gas, a record for the highest average price for regular gas in a single month.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Prices fell slightly in July 2022 and continued to drop gradually for the remainder of the year. Over the next two years, fuel costs fluctuated quite a bit but remained above the $3 per gallon threshold and higher than when Trump was in office. By April 2024, fuel costs peaked for the year before starting to decrease again in May. This steady decline would exist for the remainder of the year, dropping to a national average price of $3.01 per gallon a week before <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/christmas\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Christmas<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/3354452\/carbon-footprint-burning-tesla-vandalism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong>THE CARBON FOOTPRINT OF A BURNING TESLA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the last days of the Biden presidency, the average gas price has been much less expensive, though still more costly than during Trump&rsquo;s first term in office. Costs began to rise after Christmas before falling again on Jan. 20, the day Trump started his second term. Gas prices increased weekly in February, which many experts linked to the tariffs on Mexico and Canada that Trump teased before deciding to postpone them.<\/p>\n<p>Gas prices vary throughout the country, depending on the area, region, and state in which one lives. Mississippi has the least expensive gas prices in the country, at $2.667 per gallon.
