read Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/03\/improving-education-outcomes-by-empowering-parents-states-and-communities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">directive<\/a>. &ldquo;Today, American reading and math scores are near historical lows.&nbsp;This year&rsquo;s National Assessment of Educational Progress showed that 70% of 8th graders were below proficient in reading, and 72% were below proficient in math. Closing the Education Department without Congressional approval is unconstitutional, a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/3354731\/linda-mcmahon-congress-eliminate-education-department-executive-order\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fact<\/a> that Secretary of Education Linda McMahon acknowledged on Thursday during an appearance on Fox News.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;That&rsquo;s what he said to me from the very beginning. He would like for me to move as quickly as we can,&rdquo; said McMahon. &ldquo;But clearly he wanted to state and let Congress know that he intends to work with them.
