in the air after a judge&rsquo;s order blocking them was leaked, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/03\/16\/trump-white-house-defy-judge-deport-venezuelans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according to\">according to<\/a> a report.<\/p>\n<p>An <em>Axios <\/em>report on Sunday detailed the scramble from Trump administration officials to avoid a judge&rsquo;s eventual halting of all <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/deportation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">deportation<\/a> flights carrying members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/venezuela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Venezuelan<\/a>-based gang after President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a> invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to do so.<\/p>\n<div days, was leaked on Saturday morning, Miller and Noem worked to get the planes up over international waters just before it was issued that night by Judge James Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We wanted them on the ground first, before a judge could get the case, but this is how it worked out,&rdquo; a senior White House official said.<\/p>\n<p>By the time the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3349181\/federal-judge-stop-trump-deportations-tren-de-aragua-members\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"ruling came down\">ruling came down<\/a>, both flights were already near their destinations in El Salvador and Honduras, with Boasberg adding at the time that those planes would need to be directed back to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Any plane containing these folks that is going to take off or is in the air needs to be returned to the United States however that is accomplished. Make sure it&rsquo;s complied with immediately,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Trump administration officials then debated over whether to order the planes back, and after advice from lawyers, continued with the deportation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;There was a discussion about how far the judge&rsquo;s ruling can go under the circumstances and over international waters and, on advice of counsel, we proceeded with deporting these thugs,&rdquo; a senior official said.<\/p>\n<p>At least one of the planes made it to El Salvador, with President <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Nayib-Bukele\" title=\"\">Nayib Bukele<\/a> confirming the migrants&rsquo; arrival in footage posted on X.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today, the first 238 members of the Venezuelan criminal organization, Tren de Aragua, arrived in our country. We believe the order is not applicable,&rdquo; a second senior administration official said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Officials are also expressing confidence that any legal action against the administration for its defiance of the ruling would head to the <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Supreme-Court\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Supreme Court<\/a>, and they would win.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This is headed to the Supreme Court.
