After all, if timely winds and &ldquo;fortunate geology&rdquo; could have explained the Israelites&rsquo; escape, then what role did God play?<\/p>\n<p>Here we run headlong into the very core of Christian theology.<\/p>\n<p>In his satirical masterpiece, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Screwtape-Letters-C-S-Lewis\/dp\/0060652934\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Screwtape Letters<\/a>, legendary Christian author <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/screwtape-proposes-toast-c-s-lewis-believed-demons-love-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">C.S. Lewis<\/a> addressed the question of miracles from the perspective of Screwtape, a literary demon who always referred to God as &ldquo;the Enemy.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Screwtape described &ldquo;men&rsquo;s prayers today&rdquo; as &ldquo;one of the innumerable coordinates with which the Enemy harmonizes the weather of tomorrow.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>That wonderful phrase &mdash; &ldquo;harmonizes the weather of tomorrow&rdquo; &mdash; does two things. It provides a conceptual link between prayer and the Red Sea parting. And it reminds us of something in God&rsquo;s nature that science can never explain.<\/p>\n<p>In short, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/god-working-days-trump-took-office-rfk-jrs-running-mate-came-know-jesus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">God<\/a> exists outside of time. He has no past, present, or future. Thus, what human beings reckon as a moment in time constitutes part of God&rsquo;s continuous act of creation.<\/p>\n<p>The sheer scope of the known universe reinforces this mystery of time. After all, when we gaze at the night sky, we see the universe not as it now exists. Instead, we see it as it existed when the light left those stars, in some cases billions of years ago.<\/p>\n<p>One suspects, in fact, that God has built this mystery of time into creation for a reason.
