The Hill reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/white-house-pulls-nomination-david-weldon-cdc-director\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a> heard similar things from its own sources.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It became clear that the votes weren&rsquo;t there in the Senate for him to get confirmed,&rdquo; a source told Fox. &ldquo;This would have been a futile effort.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Curiously, there are conflicting reports on when Weldon was notified of his withdrawal.<\/p>\n<p>Fox claimed that Weldon was notified Wednesday evening, while the Wall Street Journal reported that Weldon didn&rsquo;t learn of this until Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/03\/13\/white-house-pulls-cdc-nomination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a> appeared to have first broken the story.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s also worth noting that Weldon &mdash; a former Republican representative from Florida &mdash; has become a lightning rod of criticism for reasons that go beyond his association with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/trump-administration\/white-house-pulls-cdc-director-nomination-day-confirmation-hearing-rcna196208\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> reported, Weldon has come under fire for holding controversial views on vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>Not unlike Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Weldon could best be described as a vaccine skeptic. NBC noted that &ldquo;[s]imilar to Kennedy, Weldon has made statements linking vaccines to autism.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Kennedy, he himself may have played a role in Weldon&rsquo;s consideration being withdrawn.<\/p>\n<p>Axios reported that Kennedy &ldquo;said Weldon wasn&rsquo;t ready&rdquo; for the role.<\/p>\n<p>Weldon has long spoken out about potential dangers with vaccines. One of his key missions during his time in the House was a bill that sought to remove mercury from vaccines.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2007 <a href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Weldon_Statement_Vaccine_Safety_final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">statement<\/a>, Weldon wrote: &ldquo;Federal agencies charged with overseeing vaccine safety research have failed.
