So much fun to watch!&rdquo; Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114116271026986660\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">wrote in a separate post<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Trudeau announced 25% retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. after Trump refused to back down on the tariff threats, which prompted Trump to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3336765\/trump-threatens-match-canada-retaliatory-tariffs-like-amount\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">rage against the Canadian leader<\/a> on social media again.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Trudeau reportedly had a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Katie___Simpson\/status\/1897690994721587230\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">profanity-laced <\/a><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Katie___Simpson\/status\/1897690994721587230\" target=\"_blank\">conversation&nbsp;<\/a>this<\/span> week as the two leaders discussed fentanyl, dairy, and ending the tariff standoff. Trudeau called the conversation &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/politics\/trudeau-trump-trade-war-deal-1.7476311\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">colorful<\/a>&rdquo; afterward and claimed the trade war is likely to continue &ldquo;for the foreseeable&nbsp;future.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s phone call with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, however, appeared to be quite friendly. Trump praised her cooperation on border security matters and announced a pause until April 1 on the 25% tariffs for all Mexican imports claiming USMCA preferences.<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, the White House announced a new executive action affirming the tariff pause would include both Mexico and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The move is an about-face from Trump, who repeatedly stressed that 25% tariffs against Canada and Mexico would go into effect Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>During his joint address to Congress on Tuesday evening, Trump warned a &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3336836\/trump-presidential-address-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">little disturbance<\/a>&rdquo; could be on the horizon due to the Canada and Mexico tariffs and the additional 10% tariffs against China.<\/p>\n<p>Economists have warned that tariffs on the nation&rsquo;s three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/taylor-hunt-russias-war-on-ukraine-and-global-food-supply\/\" title=\"Taylor Hunt: Russia\u2019s War on Ukraine and Global Food Supply\">largest trade partners<\/a> could risk a recession, although not as severe as the Great Depression. In the days before and after the tariffs went into effect, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/stock-market-tanks-after-report-on-biden-plan-to-pay-for-leftist-agenda-experts-warn-it-is-insanity\/\" title=\"Stock Market Tanks After Report On Biden Plan To Pay For Leftist Agenda, Experts Warn: \u2018It Is Insanity\u2019\">stock market tanked<\/a>, likely ramping up pressure on Trump to tamp down any possible trade wars.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, Trump offered carve-outs to automakers after meeting with representatives from the big three American auto manufacturers at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/White-House\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">White House<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Senior White House officials said these new exemptions evolved from those conversations, not as a reaction to the recent downturn in stock markets.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. and its northern and southern neighbors adopted the USMCA during Trump&rsquo;s first term in office to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement. Trudeau and Sheinbaum argued that Trump&rsquo;s 25% tariffs, including the 10% carve-out for energy imports from Canada, violated USMCA.<\/p>\n<p>Still, the majority of goods traded between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico are not covered by the USMCA.
