A <a href=\"https:\/\/capitol.texas.gov\/Search\/DocViewer.aspx?DocId=89RHB031321B&amp;AllWords=&amp;AnyWords=&amp;ExactWords=&amp;CustomWords=hb+3132&amp;DocType=B\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bill<\/a> introduced in the Texas House on Thursday seeks to curb part of Big Fertility&rsquo;s free rein by mandating that facilities that sell in vitro fertilization (IVF) submit an annual report to the Texas Health and Human Services Commission about the whereabouts of embryos that result.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation, brought by Republican Rep. Daniel Alders of Tyler, Texas, requires licensed health care providers to tell the state how many total embryos they create each cycle and what happens to the embryos that aren&rsquo;t implanted.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-1892550034\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claims <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/art\/php\/surveillance\/index.html#:~:text=At%20a%20glance,infants%20born%20in%20the%20U.S.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ten of thousands of babies<\/a> are born via hundreds of thousands of ART cycles every year. Yet, approximately&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/life\/report\/why-the-ivf-industry-must-be-regulated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">93<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gop-attempts-define-position-discarding-ivf-embryos-pro-life-stances\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">97<\/a>&nbsp;percent of the little lab-created lives won&rsquo;t make it to the womb or birth. <\/p>\n<p>The Lone Star State legislation demands that fertility facilities detail exactly whether embryos created via IVF, &ldquo;zygote intrafallopian transfer, gamete intrafallopian transfer, or egg retrieval&rdquo; were &ldquo;negligently destroyed&rdquo; either &ldquo;due to the failure of a cryopreservation tank or technical and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hundreds-of-ballots-discovered-after-they-fell-off-truck-in-florida-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Hundreds of ballots discovered after they fell off truck in Florida - Washington Examiner\">human error&#038;rdquo<\/a>;; expired &ldquo;due to natural causes&rdquo;; perished thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/04\/20\/health\/pgta-ivf-pregnancy-test.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">notoriously unreliable<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/05\/07\/orchid-healths-genome-testing-promises-healthy-babies-but-delivers-morally-deplorable-eugenics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eugenics-esque<\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/06\/08\/popular-genetic-testing-pits-unborn-siblings-against-each-other-and-the-highest-scorer-gets-to-live\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">genetic testing<\/a>; were &ldquo;donate[d]&rdquo; to research; were <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/02\/02\/theres-only-one-way-for-the-1-million-embryos-stuck-in-frozen-orphanages-to-make-it-out-alive-adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">adopted out<\/a>; or were stuck indefinitely in special freezers.<\/p>\n<p>The bill also requests information on how many serially manufactured embryos are discarded because they are deemed the wrong sex, are classified as genetically unusable or undesirable, or are left over by parents who decided not to use the embryos they commissioned.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As pro-child and pro-family efforts continue to advance, particularly with the aid of technologies, we must continue to be diligently pro-life,&rdquo; Alders told <a href=\"https:\/\/thetexan.news\/issues\/social-issues-life-family\/ivf-embryo-reporting-requirements-filed-in-texas-house\/article_e013994c-f945-11ef-a7d9-c3afd6f79b08.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Texan<\/a> in a statement. &ldquo;By requiring thorough IVF reporting, we affirm the dignity of every human life, and also ensure that parents and families receive the most comprehensive information possible as they endeavor to welcome a new life into their home.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While Alders&rsquo; legislation does nothing to curb the morally and ethically reprehensible services offered by Big Fertility, it does pave the way for a semblance of transparency in an industry that has spent years evading it.<\/p>\n<p>As it stands right now, U.S. fertility facilities are not required to share how many embryos they are responsible for manufacturing, freezing, or discarding each year.
