The tariffs are largely negotiating tactics with the countries that have since announced&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3308025\/mexico-canada-order-retaliatory-tariffs-on-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">retaliatory tariffs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/finance-and-economy\/3332776\/inflation-fell-to-2-5-in-january-in-feds-preferred-gauge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New inflation data<\/a>&nbsp;from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released last week showed a decline of a tenth of a percentage point in January, from 2.6% to 2.5%. However, core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices,&nbsp;rose 2.6%&nbsp;on an annual basis.
