This decision was \u2062confirmed in a memo from ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic, who stated that the changes, although challenging, are necessary for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/american-defense-priorities-following-ukraine-war\/\" title=\"American Defense Priorities After Ukraine War\">future-proofing<\/a> the organization. Citizen Activism Works\">company&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s teams will affect less than 6% of the workforce, a source shared with the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The majority of the layoffs will be in the ABC News division, which will restrict and merge the <em>20\/20<\/em> and <em>Nightline<\/em> programs and consolidate the <em>Good Morning America<\/em> and <em>GMA 3<\/em> programs.<\/p>\n<p>ABC News and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/george-stephanopoulos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"George Stephanopoulos\">George Stephanopoulos<\/a>, co-anchor of <em>Good Morning America <\/em>and <em>This Week, <\/em>recently agreed <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/12\/14\/us-news\/trump-to-sit-for-in-person-deposition-in-defamation-suit-against-abc-george-stephanopoulos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">to pay<\/a> President Donald Trump $16 million in a defamation lawsuit.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">George Stephanopoulos appears on Good Morning America in New York on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011. The website was founded by statistician <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nate-silver\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Nate Silver\">Nate Silver<\/a> and diminished in relevance after he left the political, data-driven news site in 2023. Many of his fans followed him to his Substack.<\/p>\n<p>Silver responded to the site shutting down on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Oh geez, I just saw the news about 538. My heart goes out to the people there. They were tremendously hard-working and produced a lot of <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">extremely valuable data<\/a> and insight for everyone who wants to understand politics better. They deserved much better,&rdquo; he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NateSilver538\/status\/1897141188664418476\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n<p>On social platform BlueSky, another former 538 staffer said, &ldquo;FiveThirtyEight was such a wonderful place to work, filled with some of the most supportive, creative, and thoughtful coworkers a person could ask for.
