This deal aimed to create an american-controlled fund sourced from UkraineS natural resources for reconstruction efforts. This statement provoked backlash, particularly from \u200cBritish commentators, who interpreted it as a\u2063 slight against the contributions of U.K. and \u200dFrench military \u2062forces in global \u2063initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The response to Vance&#8217;s comments included \u2064important media coverage, with\u200c some British politicians questioning\u2063 whether vance\u2019s remarks indicated a \u2062broader critique of traditional U.S. alliances. Vance rebuffed the outrage as &#8220;absurdly dishonest,&#8221; clarifying that he did not specifically mention the U.K. or France in his comments\u2062 and that his remarks were aimed at nations lacking considerable military experience. Vance that an American economic presence is a better security guarantee for Ukrainians than &ldquo;peacekeeping&rdquo; troops pulled across Europe. <\/p>\n<p>On the eve of the president&rsquo;s address to Congress, Vance went on Fox News&rsquo; &ldquo;Hannity&rdquo; with Sean Hannity to discuss the importance of a minerals deal between Washington, D.C., and Kyiv. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/article\/ukraine-mineral-deal-trump.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">deal<\/a>, which was supposed to be signed Friday, would have established an American-controlled fund filled with revenue from Ukraine&rsquo;s natural resources designed to facilitate the war-torn country&rsquo;s reconstruction. The agreement, however, was sidelined after Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/28\/in-oval-office-temper-tantrum-zelensky-blows-up-peace-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hostile<\/a> White House meeting. Vance rejected Zelensky&rsquo;s posture to prolong the war in the White House Friday and again on Fox News Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Hope is not a strategy &mdash; throwing money and ammunition at a terrible conflict, that is not a strategy,&rdquo; Vance told Hannity. &ldquo;The only guy in town with a strategy is the President United States, and everybody needs to follow his lead.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;What scares me,&rdquo; Hannity said, &ldquo;is Zelensky, when he says it&rsquo;s going to go on for years, how many more lives are going to be lost? He&rsquo;s not going to have a country to save &mdash; that minerals deal would have provided the money to rebuild their country and a strong U.S. presence and maybe European troops as well.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The President knows that, look, if you want real security guarantees, if you want to actually ensure that Vladimir Putin does not invade Ukraine again, the very best security guarantee is to give Americans economic upside in the future of Ukraine,&rdquo; Vance said. &ldquo;That is a way better security guarantee than 20,000 troops from some random country that hasn&rsquo;t fought a war in 30 or 40 years.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The security guarantee and also the economic guarantee for Ukraine,&rdquo; Vance added, &ldquo;is to rebuild the country and ensure that America has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/democrat-mayor-giving-500-a-month-to-families-of-color-to-shrink-racial-wealth-gap\/\" title=\"Democrat Mayor Giving 0 A Month To Families Of Color To Shrink \u2018Racial Wealth Gap\u2019\">long-term interest<\/a>. You&rsquo;re not going to do that if you come to the Oval Office, insult the president and refuse to follow his plan for peace.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The British media characterized the vice president&rsquo;s comments as a dismissal of France and the United Kingdom&rsquo;s military contributions to U.S.-led initiatives in the Middle East after each nation publicly pledged &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/czx7w7q7qzro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">peacekeeping<\/a>&rdquo; troops to hold Ukraine pending a ceasefire.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;UK military help is from &lsquo;some random country that hasn&rsquo;t fought a war in 40 years&#8217;&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.com\/world\/russia-ukraine-war\/article\/trump-zelensky-ukraine-aid-us-canada-latest-news-6vwq8td6f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">read<\/a> a breaking news headline from the London-based paper, The Times. <\/p>\n<p>A former member of the British Parliament <a href=\"https:\/\/www.express.co.uk\/news\/politics\/2022209\/donald-trump-russian-asset-jd-vance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">openly wondered<\/a> whether President Donald Trump is a &ldquo;Russian asset&rdquo; over the vice president&rsquo;s remark. Similar condemnations of the vice president were reported in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-independent.com\/news\/uk\/home-news\/jd-vance-mps-keir-starmer-royal-military-police-downing-street-b2708718.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Independent<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/jd-vance-trashes-keir-starmer-emmanuel-macron-ukraine-peacekeeping-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Politico Europe<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-14459663\/JD-Vance-branded-shameful-US-Vice-President-sparks-fury-dismissing-Britain-random-country-fought-war-30-years-MPs-point-hundreds-UK-troops-died-Iraq-Afghanistan.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Mail<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;JD Vance slams UK as &lsquo;some random country&rsquo; after tense interaction with Prime Minister,&rdquo; ran another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishstar.com\/news\/us-news\/jd-vance-uk-war-trump-34791279\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">headline<\/a> in the Irish Star.<\/p>\n<p>Vance slammed the outrage as &ldquo;absurdly dishonest.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t even mention the UK or France in the clip, both of whom have fought bravely alongside the US over the last 20 years, and beyond,&rdquo; Vance wrote on X.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">But let&rsquo;s be direct: there are many countries who are volunteering (privately or publicly) support who have neither the battlefield experience nor the military equipment to do anything meaningful.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; the vice president added, &ldquo;let&rsquo;s be direct: there are many countries who are volunteering (privately or publicly) support who have neither the battlefield experience nor the military equipment to do anything meaningful.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In fact, Politico <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.eu\/article\/europe-leaders-pledge-increase-defense-spending-nato-mark-rutte-keir-starmer-london-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> Sunday on comments from UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who said &ldquo;&lsquo;A number of countries&rsquo; agreed to commit troops to a peacekeeping force,&rdquo; but &ldquo;added that he would leave it to individual nations to announce their participation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The European media has been eager to villainize Vance ever since the vice president <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/14\/j-d-vance-warns-europe-that-its-greatest-threat-comes-from-within\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">lectured<\/a> western leaders at a security conference in Germany over supposed democracies engaging in authoritarian censorship. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;While the Trump administration is very concerned with European security and believes that we can come to a reasonable settlement between Russia and Ukraine,&rdquo; Vance said at the Munich Security Conference. &ldquo;The threat that I worry the most about vis-a-vis Europe &hellip; is the threat from within.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure>\n<p><span><\/p>\n<blockquote data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/VP?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@VP<\/a> in Munich: &#8220;The threat that I worry the most about vis-a-vis Europe &hellip; the vice president said. &ldquo;Everything from our Ukraine policy to digital censorship is billed as a defense of democracy, but when we see European courts cancelling elections and senior officials threatening to cancel others, we ought to ask whether we&rsquo;re holding ourselves to an appropriately high standard.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A French newspaper called Le Monde <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/international\/article\/2025\/02\/15\/in-munich-jd-vance-declares-ideological-war-on-europe_6738189_4.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> on the speech last month as a declaration of &ldquo;ideological war on Europe&rdquo;
