They \u2064have proposed legislation to ban DeepSeek on federal devices and are advocating for similar action \u2063at the\u200c state level.In \u2062their \u200dletter, they warned that using DeepSeek could <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">inadvertently expose\u2063 sensitive data<\/a> to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), posing a national \u200csecurity risk. The lawmakers emphasize the importance of preventing adversaries from accessing \u200bgovernment-related data and called upon governors to take strong measures against DeepSeek to demonstrate their commitment to \u2064security. Darin LaHood (R-IL) and Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), both members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/technology\/3312507\/deepseek-could-follow-tiktok-face-ban-government-devices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"proposed\">proposed<\/a> legislation banning DeepSeek on federal government devices. Now, they are taking their plea to governors. The two congressmen <a href=\"https:\/\/lahood.house.gov\/_cache\/files\/2\/d\/2d16c4ee-2a90-4714-baeb-ab320e1086fb\/8A45E42F0ADC64EFCF99E3814844E581.deepseek-letter-to-florida.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">wrote<\/a> to governors across the country imploring them to ban DeepSeek on government devices at the state level.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;By using DeepSeek, users are unknowingly sharing highly sensitive, proprietary information with the [Chinese Communist Party] &mdash; such as contracts, documents, and financial records. In the wrong hands, this data is an enormous asset to the CCP, a known foreign adversary. The CCP has made it abundantly clear that it will exploit any tool at its disposal to undermine our national security, spew harmful disinformation, and collect data on Americans,&rdquo; the lawmakers said in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The U.S. has been a leader in raising concerns on companies tied to the CCP, most notably Huawei and Byte Dance, that pose a direct threat to our national security. Now, we have deeply disturbing evidence that the CCP could use DeepSeek to steal the sensitive data of U.S. citizens,&rdquo; the letter continued.<\/p>\n<p>LaHood and Gottheimer called on governors to &ldquo;ban the use and download of DeepSeek from all state government affiliated devices and networks.&rdquo; The lawmakers argue doing so &ldquo;would send a clear message that your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/three-key-takeaways-from-newsoms-budget-agreement-with-state-legislature\/\" title=\"Three main points from Newsom&#039;s budget deal with state legislature.\">state remains committed<\/a> to maintaining the highest level of security and preventing one of our greatest adversaries from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alabama-utah-become-latest-states-to-ban-tiktok-on-government-devices\/\" title=\"Alabama, Utah Become Latest ... to Ban TikTok on Government Devices\">accessing sensitive state<\/a>, federal, and personal information.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>While Virginia, Texas, and New York have already banned DeepSeek from government devices, various states and the federal government have banned TikTok, a Chinese-owned social media app, from government devices.<\/p>\n<p>TikTok has had similar concerns regarding privacy and the Chinese government&rsquo;s access to user data.
