By 2030\">hybrid vehicles<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The automaker is reportedly preparing to move production of its electric Civic model from Mexico to Indiana, according to three sources <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/autos-transportation\/honda-produce-next-civic-indiana-not-mexico-due-us-tariffs-sources-say-2025-03-03\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"cited\">cited<\/a> by Reuters. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/3333600\/mexico-extradites-cartel-members-united-states-tariffs-loom\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Mexico is facing a 25%&nbsp;tariff&nbsp;<\/a>that is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3332050\/trump-tariffs-against-mexico-canada-start-march-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">slated to begin<\/a> on Tuesday after a weekslong delay. This comes amid a yearslong border crisis that led to <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">immigrants illegally crossing<\/a> the border and an increase of fentanyl discovered among states sharing borders with Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Mexico responded to the tariffs with retaliatory tariffs while also complying with Trump&rsquo;s orders by sending over 10,000 troops to the border it shares with the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Japanese automaker&nbsp;Nissan&nbsp;stopped negotiations on a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/business\/3263933\/nissan-honda-consider-merger-compete-tesla-china-ev-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">merger<\/a>&nbsp;earlier this month but committed to continuing collaboration. Still together, Nissan and Honda would have been the third largest automakers in the world behind Volkswagen and Toyota, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Honda&rsquo;s and Nissan&rsquo;s statements at the time included the commitment that &ldquo;going forward, the three companies will collaborate within the framework of a strategic partnership aimed at the era of intelligence and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/electric-car-transition-puts-73000-jobs-at-risk-in-italy-unions-and-lobby-say\/\" title=\"... Nissan&rsquo;s goal is slightly less ambitious: 60% of its sales will be electric and hybrid vehicles by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Americans bought over&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.anl.gov\/esia\/light-duty-electric-drive-vehicles-monthly-sales-updates\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">1,500,000<\/a>&nbsp;plug-in and battery&nbsp;electric&nbsp;vehicles.
