For the first time in over a decade, one <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3330712\/first-measles-death-texas-outbreak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">death of a child<\/a> was reported from measles.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I have spoken with Gov. Greg Abbott and Texas health officials, committing to providing them any additional support they need to bring this outbreak to an end. I have also spoken to the bereaved parents of the deceased child to offer consolation,&rdquo; Kennedy wrote in his editorial that he published on Fox News. <\/p>\n<p>Kennedy outlined the health risks that those who aren&rsquo;t vaccinated face and recommended that everyone get vaccinated. Before his confirmation to President Donald Trump&rsquo;s cabinet, he founded the organization&nbsp;Children&rsquo;s Health Defense, which published an article last week <a href=\"https:\/\/childrenshealthdefense.org\/defender\/measles-media-panic-real-threats-kids-health-safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"citing\">citing<\/a> a &ldquo;long list of serious side effects&rdquo; to vaccinations, including autism, a claim that is disputed in the healthcare industry.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We must engage with communities to understand their concerns, provide culturally competent education, and make vaccines readily accessible for all those who want them,&rdquo; Kennedy wrote. &ldquo;All parents should consult with their healthcare providers to understand their options to get the MMR vaccine.&nbsp;The decision to vaccinate is a personal one.&nbsp;Vaccines not only protect individual children from measles, but also contribute to community immunity, protecting those who are unable to be vaccinated due to medical reasons.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Public schools in the U.S. require vaccination against measles in order to enroll. In Texas, over 94% of the kindergarten population is vaccinated, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/measles\/data-research\/index.html#cdc_data_surveillance_section_2-what-to-know-about-measles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according\">according<\/a> to the CDC.
