Audio recordings \u2063revealed that the\u200c crew\u200d swiftly declared an emergency and requested a return to the\u200d airport after noticing engine damage. According to a FedEx spokesperson, the aircraft was en route to Indianapolis. (Kenneth Hoffman via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Audio recorded by LiveATC captured a person calmly saying the aircraft needed to &ldquo;shut down for a possible bird strike&rdquo; immediately. &ldquo;We need to return to the airport.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Moments later, another person is heard saying: &ldquo;We believe we saw their engine fall off the right wing.&rdquo; The audio indicates the strike happened when the plane was several hundred feet off the ground.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">emergency landing caused air traffic<\/a> to be briefly halted as a precaution, and operations resumed shortly after, Valen said. The emergency landing happened just after 8 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for FedEx said the plane was headed for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Indianapolis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Indianapolis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our crew declared an emergency and returned safely to Newark. We are thankful for the quick actions of our crew and first responders,&rdquo; said the spokesperson, Austin Kemker.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3322635\/experts-warn-trump-foreign-aid-pivot-boon-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EXPERTS WARN THAT TRUMP&rsquo;S FOREIGN AID PIVOT COULD BE A BOON FOR CHINA<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the incident. FAA said in a statement that the &ldquo;strike damaged one of the Boeing 767&rsquo;s engines.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The emergency landing comes at a time of heightened awareness of flight problems. In the past month, there have been&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/recent-plane-crashes-us-canada-delta-toronto-1d6e07a4bed5e229cdd1d8c415e955e5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">four major aviation disasters<\/a>&nbsp;in North America.
