The\u200c decline in trust \u200bis notably pronounced among younger individuals, with those \u200cunder 50 exhibiting greater \u200cskepticism \u2064than\u2064 those\u2064 over 65. \u200d <\/p>\n<p>Political affiliations also influence \u2062media trust, as 59% of Republicans report having zero trust in\u2064 the media, a significant increase as 2020,\u2063 while only 42% of independents and 6% of democrats \u2063share that \u2062sentiment. Who could have foreseen this riveting data from the folks at Gallup? Anyone with a brain.  <\/p>\n<p>Americans&rsquo; trust in the &ldquo;mass media&rdquo; is at its lowest point in more than 50 years according to Gallup <a href=\"https:\/\/news.gallup.com\/opinion\/gallup\/657239\/five-key-insights-americans-views-news-media.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">data<\/a> released this week. And based on polling reactions by age, the future of news is bleak, because people under 50 trust news media even less than those over 65.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2099696741\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>About 36 percent of Americans say they have &ldquo;no trust at all&rdquo; in the media to report news &ldquo;fully, accurately and fairly,&rdquo; which is up from 6 percent in 1972, Gallup&rsquo;s data shows. Thirty-three percent of respondents say they do not trust it &ldquo;very much.&rdquo; As Gallup notes, trust has been trending down since 2003. <\/p>\n<p>Fewer Republicans trust the news compared to Democrats, with 59 percent of Republicans saying they have zero trust in the mass media. This number surpassed 50 percent for Republicans for the first time in 2020 and has never recovered.<\/p>\n<p>According to the poll, 42 percent of independents say they have no trust &ldquo;at all&rdquo; in the media. Gallup&rsquo;s ranking of Americans&rsquo; confidence in certain institutions places television and print news at the bottom of the list, with print news outranking television news. The Federalist&rsquo;s Elections Editor, Elle Purnell, recently <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/26\/how-to-make-yourself-invincible-to-media-info-ops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">listed<\/a> some of the media&rsquo;s biggest scams, including &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/russiagate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Russiagate<\/a>, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/04\/16\/media-coverage-of-kavanaugh-was-criminal-heres-how-they-can-fix-it-going-forward\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kavanaugh rape hoax<\/a>,&nbsp;and the <a href=\"https:\/\/chrisbray.substack.com\/p\/breaking-news-infantryman-drank-beer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pete Hegseth smears<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;They&rsquo;re the ones who told you that the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/hunter-biden-laptop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hunter Biden laptop<\/a>&nbsp;was almost certainly Russian disinformation, that Trump called American soldiers&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/10\/24\/here-are-all-the-people-on-record-debunking-the-atlantics-latest-trump-hoax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&lsquo;suckers&rsquo; and &lsquo;losers,&rsquo;<\/a>&nbsp;that Covid definitely&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.heritage.org\/public-health\/commentary\/the-lie-the-century-the-origin-covid-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">didn&rsquo;t escape from a lab<\/a>, that Trump wanted to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/01\/corporate-medias-shameless-liz-cheney-hoax-is-what-real-disinformation-looks-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">execute Liz Cheney by firing squad<\/a>, and that J.D. Vance was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/L0m3z\/status\/1878567441120272443\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">weird<\/a>,&rdquo; Purnell wrote. <\/p>\n<p>These are some of the well-known hoaxes that have contributed to the public&rsquo;s plummeting faith in media, but there are daily examples of media incompetency.
