Glenn Youngkin signed an executive order on Thursday requiring state police to cooperate with federal immigration authorities in order to fast-track the Trump administration&rsquo;s deportation operations throughout the commonwealth. <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As Governor, protecting our citizens is my foremost responsibility and today we are taking action that will make Virginia safer by removing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tariff-debate-plays-enlarged-role-in-arizona-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Tariff debate plays enlarged role in Arizona - Washington Examiner\">dangerous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ex-top-immigration-adviser-biden-agenda-would-fundamentally-erase-very-essence-of-americas-nationhood\/\" title=\"Ex-Top ... Adviser: Biden Agenda \u2018Would Fundamentally Erase Very Essence Of America\u2019s Nationhood\u2019\">criminal illegal immigrants<\/a><\/a> from our Commonwealth,&rdquo; Youngkin said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2025\/february\/name-1041944-en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-2145520686\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Under the GOP governor&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/media\/governorvirginiagov\/governor-of-virginia\/pdf\/eo\/EO-47-Keeping-Virginians-Safe-From-Dangerous-Criminal-Illegal-Immigrants.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">directive<\/a>, Virginia State Police (VSP) and Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) are mandated to enter into 287(g) memoranda of understanding with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). According to the latter agency&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ice.gov\/identify-and-arrest\/287g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">website<\/a>, 287(g) is a section of the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act that authorizes ICE &ldquo;to delegate to state and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/country-celebrates-natl-law-enforcement-appreciation-day\/\" title=\"Country celebrates Nat\u2019l Law ... Appreciation Day\">local law enforcement officers<\/a> the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency&rsquo;s direction and oversight.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Youngkin&rsquo;s order specifies that VSP&rsquo;s agreement with ICE will allow its 287(g) Task Force &ldquo;of federally deputized officers&rdquo; to aid in the Trump administration&rsquo;s &ldquo;identification and apprehension of criminal illegal immigrants who pose a risk to public safety throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.&rdquo; Meanwhile, VADOC&rsquo;s Jail Enforcement Model Program under its 287(g) agreement will &ldquo;leverage multiple detention and processing facilities&rdquo; in the state and &ldquo;train corrections officers to be assigned as Designated Immigration Officers (DIOs).&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The governor further directs the commonwealth&rsquo;s secretary of Public Safety &amp; Homeland Security to reach out to every &ldquo;Director, Sheriff, or other official in charge of a local or regional jail in &hellip; Virginia and request a certification confirming their full cooperation with ICE in all Enforcement and Removal Operations and stating that they will cooperate with the Section 287(g) VSP Task Force.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Dangerous criminal illegal immigrants should not be let back into our communities to assault, rape and murder. They should be sent back where they came from,&rdquo; Youngkin said. <\/p>\n<p>As noted in Thursday&rsquo;s order, the commonwealth has had its fair share of egregious crimes reportedly committed by illegal aliens who unlawfully entered the United States under the Biden administration. <\/p>\n<p>In August 2023, a foreign national from Nicaragua was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2023\/08\/27\/report-bidens-parole-pipeline-welcomed-illegal-alien-now-accused-fracturing-police-officers-skull\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">detained<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wavy.com\/news\/local-news\/chesapeake\/chesapeake-officer-hit-by-vehicle-during-traffic-stop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chesapeake<\/a> after allegedly driving while intoxicated, which resulted in a crash that gave a Virginia police officer a skull fracture and fractured vertebrae. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wavy.com\/news\/local-news\/chesapeake\/chesapeake-officer-hit-by-vehicle-during-traffic-stop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">local media<\/a>, the then-30-year-old female said she had &ldquo;been in the U.S. for about seven months, [and] also was not licensed to drive a vehicle.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In February 2024, 32-year-old Renzo Mendoza Montes, a Venezuelan national, was <a href=\"https:\/\/cbsaustin.com\/news\/nation-world\/man-who-crossed-border-illegally-arrested-for-sex-crimes-against-14-year-old-girl-sheriff-whit-clark-campbell-county-virginia-border-crisis-illegal-immigrant-venezuela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">arrested<\/a> for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl in Campbell County. As The Federalist&rsquo;s Jordan Boyd <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/02\/counting-the-most-horrific-crimes-allegedly-committed-by-illegals-who-crossed-the-border-under-bidens-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>, Montes &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2024\/feb\/28\/renzo-josue-mendoza-montes-accused-abuses-teen-gir\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tried multiple times&nbsp;<\/a>to illegally enter the U.S. and was eventually admitted to the country by border patrol in September 2023 on the simple promise to show up for a 2025 court date.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Other <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/07\/02\/counting-the-most-horrific-crimes-allegedly-committed-by-illegals-who-crossed-the-border-under-bidens-watch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported incidents<\/a> include two Jordanian nationals attempting to enter Marine Corps Base Quantico in May 2024 and the alleged rape of a woman in Herndon at the hands of a Honduran national with a long rap sheet of criminal activity. <\/p>\n<p>Youngkin&rsquo;s directive makes Virginia the latest state to enhance its cooperation with federal immigration authorities to expedite the Trump administration&rsquo;s deportation efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/13\/us-news\/desantis-signs-immigration-bill-to-complement-trumps-plan-after-rare-feud-with-florida-legislature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">signed<\/a> legislation empowering state law enforcement to tackle illegal immigration throughout the state. Among the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/11\/desantis-florida-legislature-strike-agreement-to-expedite-trumps-deportation-operations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new changes<\/a> is a provision authorizing penalties to be levied against local officials who refuse or instruct other officials &ldquo;to refuse to comply with an immigration detainer issued by a federal immigration agency.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee also signed immigration-related legislation earlier this month. According to a local NBC affiliate, the measure, among other changes to state law, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbir.com\/article\/news\/state\/tennessee-bill-into-law-immigration-reform\/51-2713a3ec-9669-44ab-b5f3-3534731122e0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">creates<\/a> &ldquo;a centralized team to enforce immigration rules across the state and reform the state&rsquo;s policies on immigration to better align with President Donald Trump&rsquo;s goals.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
