Natural mummification takes place in dry, hot environments.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/gene-hackman-wife-found-dead-investigation-santa-fe-sheriffs-rcna193960\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC<\/a>, authorities said both had been dead &nbsp;&ldquo;quite a while.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>A search warrant said both deaths were &ldquo;suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza said pills found near Arakawa&rsquo;s body was &ldquo;very important evidence at the scene.&rdquo; He added the police are &ldquo;looking at that specifically and other medications that were possibly in the residence. That is something of concern.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think I&rsquo;m pretty confident there is no foul play just based on the lack of evidence of foul play, but we of course are not ruling that out,&rdquo; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The pills were scattered on a bathroom countertop near Arakawa&rsquo;s body, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-02-27\/no-foul-play-suspected-after-gene-hackman-wife-dog-found-dead-officials-said\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The LA Times report said both bodies appeared to have fallen abruptly and said the bodies of both Hackman and his wife were partially decomposed.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mystery-surrounding-death-gene-hackman-wife-deepens-sheriff-releases-puzzling-new-details\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bodies<\/a> had no signs of trauma and there did not appear to be evidence of carbon monoxide poisoning.<\/p>\n<p>Hackman&rsquo;s body was found near the kitchen.
