He has been\u2062 in a Rome hospital for the past ten days. In response to\u200c his serious condition, the Vatican organized a special\u2062 saying of \u2062the rosary at St. Peter\u2019s Square, a\u200d <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">rare event typically\u2063 reserved<\/a> for popes\u2063 experiencing dire health situations. Some of the\u2063 pope\u2019s lab tests have improved, adn he has experienced fewer respiratory\u200d issues, but he still faces serious health risks due to his\u2064 age, notably\u200b concerning pneumonia. Despite these \u200cchallenges, he has managed to \u2063communicate with others, including a priest in Gaza, and expressed gratitude for the messages\u200b of support he has received. Vatican officials have not provided a detailed prognosis but reiterated the importance\u200d of \u200dongoing prayers and support for the pope. (AP Photo\/Bernat Armangue)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This was the first time a special saying of the rosary was recited for the pope, Vatican officials <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/2025\/02\/24\/pope-francis-health-rosary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">said<\/a>. Such a saying of the rosary is usually reserved for popes in grim conditions. The death of John Paul II was announced in 2005 after a crowd in St. Peter&rsquo;s Square finished saying the rosary for him.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the pope&rsquo;s lab tests have improved, and he has had no further asthmatic episodes. He has a &ldquo;mild renal insufficiency,&rdquo; or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/coffee-good-for-diabetes-and-its-common-complications-current-studies\/\" title=\"Coffee Good for Diabetes and Its Common Complications: Current Studies\">declining kidney function<\/a>, but it is not considered a &ldquo;cause for concern.&rdquo; His oxygen therapy has continued but with less flow and percentage of oxygen.<\/p>\n<p>No prognosis has been offered for the pope, but someone of his age faces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thoracic.org\/patients\/patient-resources\/resources\/top-pneumonia-facts.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">a greater risk of death<\/a> from pneumonia.<\/p>\n<p>The pope received Holy Communion on Monday morning before working in the afternoon and managed to eat solid food. He called the parish priest in Gaza to offer his &ldquo;paternal closeness.&rdquo; The pope has spoken with the priest throughout the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-taking-shots-at-netanyahu-45-tells-palestinian-leader-everything-will-be-good-before-meeting-with-bibi\/\" title=\"Trump Taking Shots at Netanyahu? 45 Tells Palestinian Leader &#039;Everything Will Be Good&#039; Before Meeting with Bibi\">region&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s war.<\/p>\n<p>He thanked those who have wished him well on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I have recently received many messages of affection, and I have been particularly struck by the letters and drawings from children,&rdquo; a post from his X account said. &ldquo;Thank you for your closeness, and for the consoling prayers I have received from all over the world!&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>He has sought to offer the public transparent updates on his health when top Vatican officials have declined to do so in the past.
