Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) underscored how the recent cuts to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/federal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">federal<\/a> government are needed so it can address the national debt of the United States.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/oklahoma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Oklahoma<\/a> senator explained that residents of his state want proper elimination of waste and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/fraud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">fraud<\/a> within the government, and that a &ldquo;reset&rdquo; is needed to address funding that has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/3315043\/nih-cutting-overhead-funding-for-research-at-universities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">&ldquo;abused&rdquo; by universities<\/a>. He added that the majority of voters don&rsquo;t want their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taxes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">tax<\/a> dollars to be wasted, which he argued has been going on for some time now, pointing to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/usaid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">U.S. Agency of International Development<\/a> as an example.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I don&rsquo;t want anybody to lose their job, that&rsquo;s the last thing we want,&rdquo; Mullin explained on NBC&rsquo;s <em>Meet the Press<\/em>. &ldquo;But [at] the same time, any time you&rsquo;re trying to secure this country, which a national security risk we have right now is our national debt, we have to make changes and we have to make it quickly. Unfortunately, when we have bureaucrats and politicians that have wastefully spent the American taxpayer dollars &mdash; and we don&rsquo;t have to look any further than USAID to see the wasteful billions of dollars that were spent &mdash; cuts had to take place and every business owner understands this. He added that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3323144\/doge-saved-50-billion-scott-bessent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">over $55 billion in government waste has already been identified<\/a> in just the first four weeks of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump&rsquo;s<\/a> second term, and more will be identified going forward.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Take care of your pennies, and the dollars will take care of themselves,&rdquo; Mullin argued. &ldquo;Every business owner knows that.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Mullin also addressed how Trump recently joked about seeking a third term in office, even though it is unconstitutional.
