At the moment the prognosis is reserved,&rdquo; the statement said.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/world\/3322635\/experts-warn-trump-foreign-aid-pivot-boon-china\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EXPERTS WARN THAT TRUMP&rsquo;S FOREIGN AID PIVOT COULD BE A BOON FOR CHINA<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, doctors said that Francis was battling a pneumonia and a complex respiratory infection that doctors say remains&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pope-francis-pneumonia-hospital-b211a400c4cedc1f419d932447cfc189\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">touch-and-go<\/a>&nbsp;and will keep him hospitalized for at least another week.<\/p>\n<p>The Vatican carried on with its Holy Year celebrations without the pope on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>In a brief earlier update on Saturday, Francis slept well overnight.<\/p>\n<p>But doctors have warned that the main threat facing Francis would be the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pope-francis-illness-explainer-pneumonia-vatican-6c90fdb0d03ed1703293564686a80978\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">onset of sepsis<\/a>, a serious infection of the blood that can occur as a complication of pneumonia. As of Friday, there was no evidence of any sepsis, and Francis was responding to the various drugs he is taking, the pope&rsquo;s medical team said in their first in-depth update on the pope&rsquo;s condition.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He is not out of danger,&rdquo; said his personal physician, Dr. Luigi Carbone. &ldquo;So like all fragile patients I say they are always on the golden scale: In other words, it takes very little to become unbalanced.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Francis, who has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fauci-says-covid-19-showed-the-undeniable-effects-of-racism\/\" title=\"Fauci Says COVID...19 Showed The \u2018Undeniable Effects Of Racism\u2019\">chronic lung disease<\/a>, was admitted to Gemelli hospital on Feb. 14 after a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pope-francis-vatican-gemelli-hospital-0a88f9b701a0933ac6a781df785cd0db\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">weeklong bout of bronchitis worsened<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3228342\/department-of-government-efficiency-what-to-know\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WHAT IS DOGE? WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Doctors first diagnosed the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pope-illness-polymicrobial-infection-6638f63730046f420b4d0a6d364826f7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">complex viral, bacterial and fungal respiratory tract infection<\/a>&nbsp;and then the onset of pneumonia in both lungs. They prescribed &ldquo;absolute rest&rdquo; and a combination of cortisone and antibiotics, along with supplemental oxygen when he needs it.<\/p>\n<p>Carbone, who along with Francis&rsquo; personal nurse&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/pope-francis-health-religion-394ebc2f70852edf267533c5c1af7240\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Massimiliano Strappetti<\/a>&nbsp;organized care for him at the Vatican, acknowledged he had insisted on staying at the Vatican to work, even after he was sick, &ldquo;because of institutional and private commitments.&rdquo; He was cared for by a cardiologist and infectious specialist in addition to his personal medical team before being hospitalized.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Sergio Alfieri, the head of medicine and surgery at Rome&rsquo;s Gemelli hospital, said the biggest threat facing Francis was that some of the germs that are currently located in his respiratory system pass into the bloodstream, causing sepsis. Sepsis can lead to organ failure and death.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Sepsis, with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fla-gov-desantis-holds-red-tide-meeting-to-discuss-mitigation-efforts\/\" title=\"Fla. Gov. DeSantis holds red tide meeting to discuss mitigation efforts\">respiratory problems<\/a> and his age, would be really difficult to get out of,&rdquo; Alfieri told a news conference Friday at Gemelli. &ldquo;The English say &lsquo;knock on wood,&rsquo; we say &lsquo;touch iron.&rsquo; Everyone touch what they want,&rdquo; he said as he tapped the microphone. &ldquo;But this is the real risk in these cases: that these germs pass to the bloodstream.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/daily-memo\/3321217\/on-illegal-immigration-trump-filing-lawsuits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, IT&rsquo;S TRUMP FILING THE LAWSUITS<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He knows he&rsquo;s in danger,&rdquo; Alfieri added. &ldquo;And he told us to relay that.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Deacons, meanwhile, were gathering at the Vatican for their special Jubilee weekend. Francis got sick at the start of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/vatican-jubilee-holy-year-pope-rome-c8ee2a3d8008107fa7277bb84e2f87ac\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Vatican&rsquo;s Holy Year<\/a>, the once-every-quarter-century celebration of Catholicism. This weekend, Francis was supposed to have celebrated deacons, a ministry in the church that precedes ordination to the priesthood.<\/p>\n<p>In his place, the Holy Year organizer will celebrate Sunday&rsquo;s Mass, the Vatican said. And for the second weekend in a row, Francis was expected to skip his traditional Sunday noon blessing, which he could have delivered from Gemelli if he were up to it.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Look, even though he&rsquo;s not (physically) here, we know he&rsquo;s here,&rdquo; said Luis Arnaldo Lopez Quirindongo, a deacon from Ponce, Puerto Rico who was at the Vatican on Saturday for the Jubilee celebration. &ldquo;He&rsquo;s recovering, but he&rsquo;s in our hearts and is accompanying us because our prayers and his go together.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Beyond that, doctors have said Francis&rsquo; recovery will take time and that regardless he will still have to live with his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sepsis-a-threat-in-popes-pneumonia-battle-as-vatican-holy-year-celebrations-march-on-without-him-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"... a threat in ...\u2019s pneumonia battle as ... ... march on without him ...
