It alleges that Wiles and Leavitt said the <em>Associated Press<\/em> could not cover President Donald Trump from the Oval Office unless it updated its stylebook to replace the Gulf of Mexico with the Gulf of America.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The press and all people in the United States have the right to choose their own words and not be retaliated against by the government,&rdquo; the <em>Associated Press<\/em> said in its lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This targeted attack on the AP&rsquo;s editorial independence and ability to gather and report the news strikes at the very core of the First Amendment,&rdquo; the news wire said. &ldquo;This court should remedy it immediately.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Trump made it clear that the <em>Associated Press&rsquo;s<\/em> decision not to use the term Gulf of America is why the outlet is indefinitely barred from the Oval Office at a press conference on Tuesday: &ldquo;We&rsquo;re going to keep them out until such time as they agree that it&rsquo;s the Gulf of America.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In defending the decision, Leavitt stated that &ldquo;it is a privilege to cover this White House&rdquo; and that the Trump administration reserves the right to decide who goes into the Oval Office.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Nobody has the right to go into the Oval Office and ask the president of the United States questions.
