This action follows \u200dremarks by\u200c former President Donald Trump,who\u2064 criticized Governor Janet Mills for \u2062disregarding federal \u2064civil \u2064rights\u2062 protections for\u200d female\u200b athletes. Trump warned Mills of possible repercussions, including the loss of federal funding, if she does not comply with federal regulations. \u200cThe investigation will focus on allegations that Maine&#8217;s educational policies violate Title \u200dIX \u2062by permitting male \u200dathletes to compete in\u200d female sports and denying female students access to female-onyl facilities. The Department \u2063of Education has threatened to revoke federal funding for non-compliance and\u2063 is also investigating similar situations\u2063 in other states. Janet Mills, D-Maine, over her defiance of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/federal-judge-brings-united-airlines-vaccine-mandate-plans-to-a-halt-with-new-order\/\" title=\"Federal Judge Brings United Airlines&#039; Vaccine Mandate Plans to a Halt with New Order\">federal civil rights protections<\/a> for girls.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You better comply, because otherwise you&rsquo;re not getting any &hellip; federal funding,&rdquo; Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YH8T_ld0IeY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> Mills at a governors&rsquo; summit at the White House on Friday. &ldquo;By the way, your population, even though it&rsquo;s somewhat liberal &mdash; although I did very well there &mdash; your population doesn&rsquo;t want men playing in women&rsquo;s sports.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-453789767\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Mills said she&rsquo;d see Trump in court, but Trump replied, &ldquo;Good, I&rsquo;ll see you in court. I look forward to that. That should be a real easy one. And, enjoy your life after governor, because I don&rsquo;t think you&rsquo;ll be in elected politics.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Immediately following the exchange, the Department of Education <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/office-civil-rights-launches-title-ix-violation-investigations-maine-department-of-education-and-maine-school-district\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sent a letter<\/a> to Maine Department of Education Commissioner Pender Makin over &ldquo;allegations that it continues to allow male athletes to compete in girls&rsquo; interscholastic athletics and that it has denied female athletes female-only intimate facilities, thereby <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wisconsin-org-trains-daycares-to-support-riots-abolishing-police\/\" title=\"Wisconsin Org Trains Daycares To Support Riots, Abolishing Police\">violating federal antidiscrimination law<\/a>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The investigation includes an inquiry into a Maine school district where a male student who claims to be a female at Greely High School competed against girls and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wmtw.com\/article\/maine-lawmaker-highlights-transgender-track-and-field-athlete\/63845602\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">stole<\/a> first place in the girls&rsquo; pole vaulting championship.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Education <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/19\/trump-administration-vows-to-fight-any-schools-that-defy-order-to-end-dei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told schools across the country<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/02\/14\/education-department-launches-investigation-into-5-virginia-school-districts-for-allowing-boys-in-girls-bathrooms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drop their policies<\/a> allowing men in women&rsquo;s sports and DEI initiatives because they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/just-in-supreme-court-will-hear-cases-challenging-race-based-affirmative-action\/\" title=\"JUST IN: Supreme Court Will Hear Cases Challenging Race-Based Affirmative Action\">violate civil rights law<\/a>, including Title IX. The department threatened to revoke federal education funding from any state or locality that does not comply, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/sports\/trump-vows-cut-off-federal-funding-maine-refsual-comply-no-men-womens-sports-order?msockid=1b31ba6a1a6466743e12afe21bc96728\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump promised to do<\/a> with Maine specifically on Thursday. Maine&rsquo;s K-12 schools <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressherald.com\/2025\/02\/20\/maine-schools-told-to-remove-dei-or-lose-federal-funding\/#:~:text=Maine%20K%2D12%20schools%20received,federal%20funding%20this%20school%20year.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">serve to lose $250 million<\/a>, according to the Portland Press Herald.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Maine would have you believe that it has no choice in how it treats women and girls in athletics &mdash; that is, that it must follow its state laws and allow male athletes to compete against women and girls,&rdquo; Craig Trainor, Education Department acting assistant secretary for civil rights, said in a press release. &ldquo;Let me be clear: If Maine wants to continue to receive federal funds from the Education Department, it has to follow Title IX. If it wants to forgo federal funds and continue to trample the rights of its young female athletes, that, too, is its choice. OCR will do everything in its power to ensure taxpayers are not funding blatant civil rights violators.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Investigators will determine whether state and local policies are in &ldquo;compliance with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-justice-department-pick-helped-kill-pipeline-favored-by-key-senator\/\" title=\"Biden Justice ... Pick Helped Kill Pipeline Favored by Key Senator\">federal civil rights law<\/a>.&rdquo; The department noted, &ldquo;State laws do not override federal antidiscrimination laws.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The department has also directed similar investigations into the Minnesota State High School League and California Interscholastic Federation, &ldquo;both of which publicly announced plans to violate federal antidiscrimination laws related to girls&rsquo; and women&rsquo;s sports,&rdquo; the department stated.<\/p>\n<p>While some states and sports associations are defiant, others are reversing course in order to comply with federal civil rights law, including in Wisconsin and New Hampshire, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/about\/news\/press-release\/us-department-of-educations-statement-title-ix-compliance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">recognized<\/a> by the department.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">\n<div class=\"article-author-description fst-italic\">      Breccan F.
