Reyes and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/pam-bondi-blindsides-new-yorks-kathy-hochul-and-letitia-james-with-federal-lawsuit-this-is-a-new-doj\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justice Department<\/a> attorney Jason C. Lynch over Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/prioritizing-military-excellence-and-readiness\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">executive order<\/a> directing the military to stop using preferred pronouns.<\/p>\n<p>From Reyes&rsquo; comments relayed by NBC, she seemed very upset that the Trump administration would try to purge transgender ideology from the military.<\/p>\n<p>When Reyes asked Lynch how using preferred pronouns would impact military preparedness during Tuesday&rsquo;s hearing, he was only able to get out, &ldquo;I don&rsquo;t &hellip;&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>She then proceeded to cut off any answer he could give, saying, &ldquo;Because it doesn&rsquo;t.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> \t\t\tif ( getCookie( \"ff_subbed\" ) ) { \t\t\t\tdocument.getElementById(\"stnvideo\").remove() \t\t\t} \t\t<\/script> <\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Because any common sense, rational human being understands that it doesn&rsquo;t,&rdquo; Reyes added.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes appeared to go on a rant, saying it was, &ldquo;ridiculous&rdquo; to believe military personnel are affected by using fellow servicemembers&rsquo; preferred pronouns.<\/p>\n<p>In January, several transgender servicemembers sued to block Trump&rsquo;s order, which also banned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alleged-transgender-vegan-cult-leader-linked-multiple-murders-erupts-bail-denial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trans people<\/a> from joining the military.<\/p>\n<p>Reyes referred to Trump&rsquo;s order as &ldquo;arguably rampant with animus.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Those plaintiffs suing to block the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">order made similar claims<\/a>, saying, &ldquo;Rather than being based on any legitimate governmental purpose, the ban reflects animosity toward transgender people because of their transgender status.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>From the comments reported by NBC, Reyes doesn&rsquo;t appear to cite any actual law the Trump administration is in violation of with this order. Instead, she chooses more abstract and subjective notions, like &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hulk-hogan-to-speak-on-final-day-of-rnc-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Hulk Hogan to speak on final day of RNC - Washington Examiner\">common sense&#038;rdquo<\/a>; and being &ldquo;rational.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>To be sure, common sense and rationality should be front and center in judges&rsquo; minds but should guide those judges in interpreting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fact-check-can-trump-send-worst-criminals-el-salvador-according-law-answer-yes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the law<\/a> as it is written.<\/p>\n<p>Those principles are not to be appropriated for personal ends as Reyes is doing here.<\/p>\n<p>This is judicial activism in essence: putting the law on the periphery, so one&rsquo;s own agenda can guide decisions.<\/p>\n<p>To entertain Reyes&rsquo; arguments and provide a response &mdash; yes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/video-game-pushed-pronouns-dei-gets-yanked-off-shelves-mere-weeks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">preferred pronouns<\/a> are to the detriment of military preparedness.<\/p>\n<p>Language policing servicemembers and badgering them with others self-delusion can only sow dissent.<\/p>\n<p>There is also something ridiculous about an American-born president finding opposition in a foreign-born activist judge.
