I will vote for his confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (@SenBillCassidy) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenBillCassidy\/status\/1891979235956289968?\">February 18, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Cassidy&rsquo;s support, along with the vote, sets &ldquo;the stage for a final confirmation vote on one of Trump&rsquo;s most controversial nominees later this week,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/senate-advances-nomination-trump-fbi-pick-kash-patel-2025-02-18\/?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reuters<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/kash-patel-stuns-klobuchar-puts-timer-got-two-minutes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patel<\/a>, a former federal prosecutor who served in various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-state-department-nominee-is-a-defender-of-china-propaganda-program\/\" title=\"Biden State Department Nominee Is a Defender of China Propaganda Program\">national security positions<\/a> during the first Trump administration, was seen as one of the nominees the Democrats thought was the most vulnerable to an attack.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to attacking his experience and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-trump-picked-lead-fbi-victim\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">controversial statements<\/a> he&rsquo;s made in the past, Democrats argued that his vocal criticism of the FBI&rsquo;s investigations of Trump under former President Joe Biden&rsquo;s administration might lead to a &ldquo;purge&rdquo; of those deemed responsible.<\/p>\n<p>Patel, however, told Congress during his testimony that there wouldn&rsquo;t be any retribution for those who worked on the investigations simply&nbsp;<em>because<\/em> they worked on the investigations, arguing that he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/fbi-surrenders-trumps-doj-turns-details-5000-bureau-employees-role-jan-6-cases\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wanted to review their work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think if anyone commits a wrong in government service, the American public deserve to know every absolute detail of that corrupt activity,&rdquo; Patel said.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/live-updates\/2025\/02\/04\/congress\/democrats-fbi-kash-patel-trump-00202465\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a>, after the first hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee failed to produce the knockout blow they wanted to land &mdash; the same way the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">knockout blow didn&#038;rsquo<\/a>;t come against other nominees like Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth or Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard &mdash; Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats requested a second hearing.<\/p>\n<p>This hearing, Politico reported, was meant to focus on Patel&rsquo;s role in former special counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-cnn-following-around-jack-smith-like-fangirls-news-possible-third-trump-indictment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jack Smith&rsquo;s<\/a> probe into then-former President Trump&rsquo;s retention of classified material.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;In order to discharge our constitutional duty, we must have a full and accurate understanding of Mr. Patel&rsquo;s record,&rdquo; wrote Senate Judiciary Committee Democrats in a letter to Judiciary Committee Chair Chuck Grassley .<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Committee must fulfill its responsibility to the American people and the 38,000 employees of the FBI nationwide to ensure that a Director confirmed by the Senate possesses the requisite characteristics of truthfulness, trustworthiness, and regard for the protection of classified information befitting of the FBI.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>This didn&rsquo;t happen, and the Judiciary Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-fbi-kash-patel-61610c5384536667eb112734465b0a19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">advanced<\/a> the nomination by a 12-10 vote.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s worth noting that several senators didn&rsquo;t vote, and Patel still needs to get to 50 votes to get confirmed to a 10-year term as FBI director.<\/p>\n<p>The two usual suspects in the 53-strong Republican caucus &mdash; Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska &mdash; have announced they&rsquo;re undecided on Patel, the Hill reported. Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, another &ldquo;no&rdquo; vote on other nominees Democrats have caused a controversy over, has not publicly announced his position on the matter.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, Cassidy was considered to be the most likely &ldquo;no&rdquo; vote, if there was to be one, that would prevent the GOP from getting to 50 votes on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/watch-adam-schiff-becomes-agitated-kash-patel-refuses-play-along-confirmation-hearing-stunt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With his support, it looks like the final cabinet-level cause c&eacute;l&egrave;bre nominee targeted by The Resistance 2.0 looks on track to get confirmed.
