On Thursday, the university announced it would eliminate racial requirements for the scholarship and <a href=\"https:\/\/medschool.cuanschutz.edu\/radiation-oncology\/education\/medical-students\/visiting-student-scholarship\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">rename<\/a> it the &ldquo;Radiation Oncology Visiting Elective Scholarship.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are pleased that University of Colorado eliminated the racial requirement for this scholarship,&rdquo; said Stanley Goldfarb, MD, Chairman of DNH. &ldquo;Racial discrimination is immoral and has no place in medical education. Medical scholarships should go to the most qualified candidate based on merit, not race.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">revised scholarship terms provide<\/a> up to $2,000 to cover lodging, travel, and related expenses for a four-week elective rotation. Eligibility criteria include enrollment in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/58-of-nations-top-medical-schools-forcing-mandatory-crt-programs\/\" title=\"58% of Nation\u2019s Top Medical Schools Forcing Mandatory CRT Programs\">accredited medical school<\/a>, good academic standing, and submission of a statement of interest detailing the applicant&rsquo;s commitment to serving underserved populations.<\/p>\n<p>The case was dismissed, and both parties agreed to bear their own legal fees and costs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/828079158\/Colorado-University-alters-discriminatory-lawsuit-after-complaint\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">according<\/a> to the joint stipulation of dismissal.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit leaned on the 2023 Supreme Court decision that struck down race-based admissions practices in higher education, known as <em>Students For Fair Admissions v. Harvard\/ UNC<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Since that ruling, challenges to similar race-based scholarships have surfaced across the country, and the return of President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Donald Trump<\/a> to the Oval Office has seen even greater changes at the executive level to address <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dei\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"diversity, equity, and inclusion\">diversity, equity, and inclusion<\/a> initiatives that have been under scrutiny for similar discriminatory qualities.<\/p>\n<p>In January, Trump signed an executive order <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/ending-radical-and-wasteful-government-dei-programs-and-preferencing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">titled<\/a> &ldquo;Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing,&rdquo; which mandates the termination of DEI initiatives across federal agencies. This order directs agencies to dismantle DEI offices, cease related training, and remove DEI content from official websites.
