Gavin Newsom didn&rsquo;t show up at a photo op event commemorating the start of federal debris removal in the wake of the California wildfires. Freshly swept roadways! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0UxMaLk8kl\">https:\/\/t.co\/0UxMaLk8kl<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/oIsp6ENdFw\">pic.twitter.com\/oIsp6ENdFw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Joel Pollak (@joelpollak) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/joelpollak\/status\/1889415468357665217?\">February 11, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Newsom, as it turns out,&nbsp;<em>didn&rsquo;t<\/em> show in Pacific Palisades, but instead in Altadena, another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fox-news-host-questions-if-the-constitution-has-been-suspended-in-maui-after-official-tries-to-enforce-media-free-zone\/\" title=\"Fox ... host questions if the Constitution is suspended in Maui after official attempts to enforce &#039;media-free zone&#039;.\">fire-ravaged area<\/a>, bragging about the &ldquo;unprecedented&rdquo; speed of cleanup and recovery efforts and thanking local and state officials for their work in getting that done, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxla.com\/news\/la-fires-debris-removal-gavin-newsom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KTTV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;All of this is happening concurrently. It&rsquo;s not just 30 days and then we begin the next phase. It&rsquo;s not just that next phase and then after six months, nine months or a year, then we begin construction. All of this is happening concurrently. It&rsquo;s happening at the same time,&rdquo; Newsom said during the Tuesday morning media briefing.<\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s worth noting that Newsom <em>was<\/em> expected by the media to be in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/nightmare-fuel-video-inside-2-men-dog-watch-fire-whirl-around-home-palisades-blaze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pacific Palisades<\/a> &mdash; although perhaps it&rsquo;s not a surprise he chose Altadena instead after Pollak got wind of the stunt.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The Governor was in Altadena this morning, and is currently meeting with community leaders, as was planned&hellip;<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Brandon Richards &#128059; (@BrandonRichards) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrandonRichards\/status\/1889430672672170282?\">February 11, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>For one thing, Altadena was damaged by the Eaton Fire, which was separate from the Palisades Fire; while nobody in the Golden State acquitted themselves well during the wildfires, the Palisades Fire was much more damaging and raised <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/environmentalists-permanently-halted-pacific-palisades-fire-prevention-project-fire-sparked\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">far more questions about preparedness<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And second &mdash; well, look at those flags, specifically the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/small-group-students-defends-american-flag-furious-mob-love-country\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American one<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;m shocked this needs to be pointed out, but apparently patriotism and respect for the American flag are out of fashion these days, so from the Department of Defense&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Feature-Stories\/story\/Article\/1892936\/dos-and-donts-for-displaying-old-glory\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a> about proper flag display protocol:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>&ldquo;The flag should never touch anything beneath it; this includes water, merchandise and even the floor.&rdquo;<\/li>\n<li>&ldquo;The U.S. flag should flow freely in the wind or in a lobby with a passing breeze as people walk past. Stretching a flag is a lot like walking around with your arms held out straight. It is not to be held captive by metal arm spreaders as if to say, &lsquo;Look at me!&#8217;&rdquo;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Put in a position where it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/sheriffs-deputy-captured-camera-saving-american-flag-touching-ground\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">could touch the street<\/a>? Check.<\/p>\n<p>Strapped down while hanging from the backhoe&rsquo;s arm? Certainly looks like it.<\/p>\n<p>The first is more obviously true &mdash; and also a more obvious and grave violation of flag protocol &mdash; than the second, but both appear to have been breached.<\/p>\n<p>Now, ask yourself this question: Which is more likely to make this mistake &mdash; Trump&rsquo;s federal government, who put this event on, or people associated with Gov. Newsom and his coterie?<\/p>\n<p>Ask yourself another question: When this began going viral, what do you think the odds are that the people carefully grooming Newsom for a 2028 run realized it might be better for him to appear at a different event than be seen in what could end up being, for all intents and purposes, his version of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BRPZQ3UEN_Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Dukakis riding in a tank<\/a> when he tries painting himself as a man for all Americans, not just some West Coast liberal?<\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;m not saying that&rsquo;s what&nbsp;<em>happened<\/em>.
