This advancement comes shortly after a controversial renaming of \u200bthe Gulf of Mexico \u200bto &#8220;Gulf of America&#8221; for U.S. users, in line with\u2063 an executive order from president Trump. This phasing out began in the middle of 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Some years ago, the Calendar team started manually adding a broader set of cultural moments in a wide number of countries around the world,&rdquo; a Google spokesperson said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/02\/10\/google-calendar-removes-start-of-black-history-womens-history-months.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"statement\">statement<\/a>. &ldquo;We got feedback that some other events and countries were missing &mdash; and maintaining hundreds of moments manually and consistently globally wasn&rsquo;t scalable or sustainable.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>This comes weeks after Google changed the&nbsp;Gulf of Mexico&nbsp;on its Maps app to the &ldquo;Gulf of America&rdquo; for its users in the United States in accordance with President&nbsp;Donald Trump&rsquo;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/3302570\/google-maps-rename-gulf-mexico-gulf-america-us-users\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"executive order\">executive order<\/a> that gave the gulf the new name. <\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In recent years, Google has made several changes in its company culture. It dissolved its vaccination, masking, and social distancing policies earlier than most at the start of 2022.
