If enacted, the Act would revoke this autonomy within a \u200cyear. Proponents, including Lee, argue that the D.C. government has been plagued \u200dby \u2062corruption, highlighted by incidents such as Councilman Trayon White\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-lt-gov-brian-benjamin-arrested-for-campaign-finance-scheme\/\" title=\"New York Lt. Gov Brian Benjamin Arrested For Campaign Finance Scheme\">federal bribery charges<\/a>, and has enacted ineffective crime policies. Andy Ogles (R-TN)&nbsp; introduced the Bracing Oversight to Washington and Safety to Every Resident Act, or the BOWSER Act,&nbsp; which would end <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">D.C.&rsquo;s<\/a> home rule.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-paywall\">\n<p>The Home Rule Act gives the District of Columbia autonomy from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/federal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">federal<\/a> government in governing its affairs, which include making its own laws, controlling tax revenue, and operating its police force. If the bill is passed, it would revoke home rule within one year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The corruption, crime, and incompetence of the D.C. government has been an embarrassment to our nation&rsquo;s capital for decades,&rdquo; Lee said in a statement. &ldquo;It is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-gun-policies-concern-second-amendment-advocates\/\" title=\"Biden gun policies concern Second Amendment advocates\">long past time<\/a> that Congress restored the honor and integrity of George Washington to the beautiful city which bears his name.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lee cited Councilman Trayon White&rsquo;s federal bribery charges as evidence of the city&rsquo;s long history of corruption, the city&rsquo;s 2022 crime bill that implemented &ldquo;soft-on-crime policies,&rdquo; and allowing non-citizens to vote in local elections.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The radically progressive regime of D.C. Mayor Bowser has left our nation&rsquo;s Capital in crime-ridden shambles,&rdquo; Ogles said in a statement. &ldquo;Washington is now known for its homicides, rapes, drug overdoses, violence, theft, and homelessness. Bowser and her corrupt Washington City Council are incapable of managing the city. As such, it seems appropriate for Congress to reclaim its Constitutional authority and restore the nation&rsquo;s Capital.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Violent crime in Washington, D.C., has trended downward for several years. In 2024, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mark-w-smith-clever-but-wrong-inside-the-anti-gun-arguments-at-the-supreme-court\/\" title=\"Mark W. Smith: Clever but Wrong -- Inside the Anti-Gun Arguments at the Supreme Court\">violent crime rate dropped<\/a> by 35%, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">property crime rate dropped<\/a> by 11%, <a href=\"https:\/\/mpdc.dc.gov\/dailycrime\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">according<\/a> to Metropolitan Police data.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lee first introduced the BOWSER Act last year, but it died in committee.
