This offer, which allows federal workers\u2062 to resign while receiving pay \u200cuntil September 30, has been confirmed by a White House official aiming for 5% to 10% of the federal workforce\u2014approximately 100,000 to 200,000 employees\u2014to accept it.<\/p>\n<p>However, three\u200c major unions have\u200c filed a lawsuit\u200b against the proposal, resulting in a temporary\u200d delay of\u2062 the program. There are about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/senate-dems-fight-to-prevent-trump-from-draining-the-swamp\/\" title=\"Senate Dems Fight To Prevent Trump From \u2018Draining The Swamp\u2019\">2 million federal employees<\/a>, meaning the target is to have between 100,000 and 200,000 accept the offer.<\/p>\n<p>Three major unions &mdash; the American Federation of Government Employees, the National Association of Government Employees, and the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees &mdash; filed a lawsuit challenging the directive and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/3313088\/judge-temporarily-blocks-trump-deferred-resignation-for-federal-workers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"won\">won<\/a> a delay of the program earlier this week. However, the source said that development has the ironic side effect of giving workers more time to opt into the proposal their unions are fighting.<\/p>\n<p>The&nbsp;&ldquo;Fork in the Road&rdquo; offer, issued by the Office of Personnel Management, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/judges-issuing-bans-on-trumps-eos-have-extremist-records\/\" title=\"Judges Issuing Bans On Trump\u2019s EOs Have Extremist Records\">gave federal workers<\/a> until midnight Thursday to resign&nbsp;in exchange for continued pay through&nbsp;Sept. 30. That deadline has now been extended until at least Monday. The plan, modeled after&nbsp;Department of Government Efficiency head Elon Musk&rsquo;s restructuring of X, has sparked fierce opposition from federal employee unions.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are grateful to the judge for extending the deadline so more federal workers who refuse to show up to the office can take the Administration up on this very generous, once-in-a-lifetime offer,&rdquo; White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told the<em> Washington Examiner <\/em>on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The effort is designed to trim the federal workforce, particularly hybrid or remote workers who do not want to return to the office. Democrats and unions have worked to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3304277\/democrats-unions-challenge-trump-very-generous-federal-employee-resignation-offer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"undermine\">undermine<\/a> the effort, arguing that it&rsquo;s illegal and that the Trump administration may not honor its commitment of eight months of paid leave for those who opt in.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s OPM has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3308696\/trump-administration-reassure-federal-employees-resignation-offer-real\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"countered\">countered<\/a> with follow-up emails offering more information and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commerce.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-02\/Deferred%20Resignation%20Agreement.%202%201%2025.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contract template<\/a>&nbsp;workers can fill out that puts the agreement in writing.
