Weintraub stated \u200cthat\u2062 the letter is not\u2063 legally valid \u200dand \u2062emphasized that there \u200bis an official process for\u200d replacing FEC commissioners. She expressed her commitment to continue serving the \u200cAmerican people and \u2063highlighted her role in addressing \u2064notable \u2062issues\u200c during her tenure. The letter from the White House, dated January 31, \u200bstated her removal \u200bwas effective immediately. Weintraub,a Democrat,is\u2062 one of three Democrats on the FEC,alongside two Republicans and an unoccupied \u200cseat. Trump\u2019s governance \u200dhas faced criticism for similar actions in the\u2064 past, including\u200c the dismissal \u2063of numerous inspectors general shortly after he took\u2062 office. Democrats,including Rep. I&rsquo;ve been lucky to serve the American people &amp; stir up some good trouble along the way. That&rsquo;s not changing anytime soon.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Weintraub showed the letter in her social media post. &ldquo;You are hereby removed as a Member of the Federal Election Commission, effective immediately,&rdquo; the White House letter dated Jan. 31 says. &ldquo;Thank you for your service on the Commission.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Weintraub is one of three Democrats on the FEC, next to two Republicans and a vacant seat.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/3303446\/grassley-durbin-demand-trump-explain-inspectors-general-firings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">fired more than a dozen<\/a> inspectors general within his first week in office, a move considered by some unlawful. It prompted Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Dick Durbin (D-IL) to send him a letter asking to explain the moves and why he didn&rsquo;t notify Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has sought to reform a great portion of the federal government since its start. Democrats have largely condemned the moves, with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) responding to the Weintraub letter shortly after she posted it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Trump&rsquo;s political purge continues with this illegal dismissal of Democrat Ellen Weintraub from the FEC,&rdquo; he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepRaskin\/status\/1887671297880060226\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">wrote<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n<p>A large portion of the government changes have been led by Elon Musk&rsquo;s Department of Government Efficiency, which seeks to vastly cut government spending.
