according to a Department of Justice press release. He also faces a charge for unlawful possession of a firearm.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-619685101\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;If convicted on the voter fraud and gun charges, Abreu faces up to 15 years in federal prison,&rdquo; the release reads. &ldquo;He is also subject to deportation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Abreu, of Broward County, Florida, allegedly used the stolen identity of an American to register to vote in September 2020 and to vote in November 2022, the release said. He had &ldquo;been living in the United States under the assumed identity of the American citizen victim for about 18 years.&rdquo;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The man has lived in America ever since he first entered illegally close to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdfl\/pr\/illegal-alien-indicted-voter-fraud-and-gun-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">20 years<\/a> ago, according to the release. New Jersey issued an arrest warrant for Abreu in 2007 for charges of kidnapping, criminal restraint, endangering a child, and sexual assault. (According to court <a href=\"https:\/\/portal.njcourts.gov\/webe41\/MPAWeb\/jsp\/inquiry\/case\/CaseSummary.faces\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">records<\/a>, the latter two charges are still &ldquo;outstanding,&rdquo; and the case has been &ldquo;transferred.&rdquo;) He then relocated to Florida and allegedly stole an American citizen&rsquo;s identity and acquired a Florida driver&rsquo;s license and applied for a passport using the stolen identity, the release said.<\/p>\n<p>Abreu is currently being held in a Broward County jail for the U.S. Marshals, according to sheriff&rsquo;s office <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.sheriff.org\/ArrestSearch\/InmateDetail\/902400387\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">records<\/a>. He was not allowed bond. The Department of State&rsquo;s Diplomatic Security Service <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdfl\/pr\/illegal-alien-indicted-voter-fraud-and-gun-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">investigated<\/a> the case.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Legacy media outlets have long <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/2024-election-fact-check-noncitizens-cant-vote-instances-are-vanishingly-rare\/15479942\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dismissed<\/a> concerns over noncitizen voting as imaginary, with NPR <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/10\/12\/nx-s1-5147789\/voting-election-2024-noncitizen-fact-check-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claiming<\/a> they stem from &ldquo;a racist conspiracy theory known as the &lsquo;great replacement.&rsquo;&rdquo; But potential fraudsters like Abreu show there are various security gaps in the system. For example, The Federalist found that the Oregon DMV registered more than <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/11\/22\/oregon-dmv-busted-allowing-people-of-unknown-citizenship-to-register-to-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">54,600 individuals of &ldquo;unknown citizenship&rdquo;<\/a> to vote from June 2021 to October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump pledged to &ldquo;make America safe again,&rdquo; starting with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/30\/polls-show-majorities-of-americans-support-trumps-mass-deportations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">enforcing immigration laws<\/a> and enabling Immigration and Customs Enforcement to do its job. On Tuesday, the federal government sent the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/04\/us-news\/us-sends-flights-with-migrant-criminals-to-guantanamo-bay\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first planes<\/a> of illegal aliens to Guantanamo Bay.
