Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency want to eliminate it, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio seemed amenable to folding its functions into the Department of State.<\/p>\n<p>Neither pleased Democratic lawmakers, who tried to enter USAID headquarters Monday and were turned away. Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, leader of the group, vowed to take the administration to court to stop them from &ldquo;undoing USAID,&rdquo; according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5123663-democrats-blocked-entry-usaid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Hill<\/a>. USAID&rsquo;s efforts provide humanitarian assistance, reduce poverty, strengthen democratic governance, advance economic opportunities, and help achieve progress beyond programs. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/harris-makes-surprise-appearance-at-black-state-legislators-conference-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Harris makes surprise appearance at black state legislators conference - Washington Examiner\">work benefits people<\/a> around the world, including those in the United States. USAID&rsquo;s investments help achieve sustainable development progress, advancing our collective security, health, and prosperity.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Well, that sounds 1) great and 2) profoundly vague. So OK &mdash; what does the organization&nbsp;<em>really do<\/em>?<\/p>\n<p>Good question, GOP Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa said. Such a good question she had to launch an investigation with a fellow Republican to get some transparency on spending matters, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2025\/02\/03\/joni-ernst-usaid-elon-musk-transparency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daily Caller<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/greta-van-susteren-will-return-tv-weekend-political-show\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Greta Van Susteren<\/a> on Newsmax on Monday, she said that while &ldquo;that there are good programs that have existed out there that have benefited the stability of many regions around the world,&rdquo; there&rsquo;s also a lot of money unaccounted for.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Unfortunately, we have seen those at the top again that have really tried to stop members of Congress from understanding how our taxpayer dollars are flowing through the agency,&rdquo; she said, noting that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/breaking-joni-ernst-announces-game-changing-decision-pete-hegseth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she<\/a> and GOP Rep. Mike McCaul of Texas began a formal investigation into their finances <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ernst.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/ernst-demands-usaid-answer-for-payroll-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last year<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We know in the example of Ukraine &mdash; and this is what I was very focused on &mdash; is the humanitarian aid wasn&rsquo;t getting distributed to humanitarian aid contractors. Instead, it was being sent to the United Nations, where we have absolutely no idea where that money is going from that point forward,&rdquo; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;So we tried to call the question on USAID, and, again, they threatened us, they stonewalled us, until I was able to join forces with Congressman Mike McCaul and announce a formal investigation of the agency,&rdquo; she continued. &ldquo;And then, even they slow walked providing any data to us.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Also, while there are plenty of places in the world where <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/taliban-uses-foreign-aid-intended-for-starving-afghans-to-enslave-them\/\" title=\"Taliban Uses Foreign Aid Intended for Starving Afghans to Enslave Them\">humanitarian money<\/a> is needed &mdash; Africa, for instance &mdash; she said Americans needed to know it was going for inoculations and not indoctrination.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I would rather see us feeding impoverished nations. What the Trump administration wants is a transparent swamp. How much gets wasted via obfuscation and layers of bureaucracy?<\/p>\n<p>Our federal government has created layers of bureaucracy to create enough obfuscation, so that you never find out. It&rsquo;s the world&rsquo;s most expensive administrative onion, and there are so many layers to it that the Beltway elite feel confident that nobody will put in the effort to peel them away.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations and inquiries get nowhere. Freezes and DOGE intervention? That, if the anaphylactic reaction to the USAID move is any indication, is enough of a threat to the ossified establishment Washington process that permanent D.C. is perspiring.
