the sheer scale of the initial damage, but from the unique challenges presented by the cleanup.<\/p>\n<p>Among the most difficult challenges will be handling the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/electric-vehicles-create-hazardous-situation-la-fire-cleanup-delay-homeowners-return-properties\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">damaged<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/evmagazine.com\/electric-cars\/california-fire-cleanup-ev-batteries-add-complexity\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">noted<\/a> that California leads the United States with respect to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/europe-copes-with-high-inflation-amid-self-destructive-energy-policies\/\" title=\"Europe Copes With High Inflation Amid Self-Destructive Energy Policies\">electric vehicle adoption<\/a>, with just around 40% of electric cars in the country on its roads, especially because of green policies pushed by the state government.<\/p>\n<p>According to one Wednesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/california-wildfires\/la-fires-lithium-ion-batteries\/3617981\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from KNBC-TV, the fires may have therefore created one of the largest cleanups of lithium ion batteries ever.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Calanog, the incident commander for the Environmental Protection Agency handling the Palisades and Eaton fire cleanups, said in comments to KNBC-TV that the project will be &ldquo;from our estimation, probably the <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">largest lithium-ion battery pickup<\/a>, cleanup, that&rsquo;s ever happened in the history of the world.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"> area destroyed by the Pacific Palisades and Eaton fires.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ford-recalls-thousands-electric-vehicles-dangerous-defect-discovered\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">batteries<\/a> can explode when they face damage or extreme heat.<\/p>\n<p>Even worse, residual heat can cause an explosion days, weeks, or months after the initial disruption.<\/p>\n<p>The cars may show no visible sign of damage, presenting danger to residents and contractors returning to destroyed properties to start the cleanups.<\/p>\n<p>EV Magazine said that added dangers include the leakage of hazardous materials into the environment and the difficulty of identifying partially combusted batteries among other debris.<\/p>\n<p>There also exists limited recycling infrastructure to handle the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-cabinet-could-delay-tax-bills\/\" title=\"Biden&#039;s Cabinet Could Delay Tax Bills\">electric vehicle batteries<\/a>, especially after a massive influx of needed capacity, and the fact that specific protocols are needed to even handle and dispose of the batteries in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>In short, a novel technology is producing a novel challenge to Californians, marking one of just many drawbacks of the electric vehicles which the state government heavily incentivized.<\/p>\n<p>California Democratic Gov.
