Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Ron Jonson, R-Wis., Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Former FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) Timothy Thibault, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/anti-trump-fbi-agent-responsible-opening-jack-smith-elector-case-against-president-whistleblower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">was fired<\/a> for violating the Hatch Act after Grassley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/CEG%20to%20DOJ%20FBI%20(WFO).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">exposed<\/a> his public anti-Trump statements, authored the initial language for &ldquo;Arctic Frost,&rdquo; the investigation that would become former Special Counsel <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/tag\/jack-smith\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jack Smith&rsquo;s lawfare<\/a> case against Trump over the 2020 election.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-371347711\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&ldquo;Thibault took this action despite being unauthorized to open criminal investigations in his ASAC role,&rdquo; a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ronjohnson.senate.gov\/2025\/1\/sens-johnson-grassley-make-public-whistleblower-records-revealing-doj-and-fbi-plot-to-pin-trump-in-jack-smith-elector-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">joint press release<\/a> from the senators stated. They also said the Justice Department and FBI had a &ldquo;plot to pin Trump.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The investigation was then advanced by Justice Department Public Integrity Sector official Richard Pilger, former head of the Election Crimes Branch, who was also the subject of a Grassley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/in_their_own_words_a_factual_summary_of_testimony_from_senior_justice_department_officials_relating_to_events_from_december_14_2020_to_january_3_2021.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> stating he &ldquo;undermined the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-administration-freezes-student-loan-repayments-following-court-rulings-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Biden administration freezes student loan repayments following court rulings - Washington Examiner\">department&#038;rsquo<\/a>;s election-related efforts.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Pilger&rsquo;s authorization allowed the Justice Department to advance a full criminal and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-president-trump-gives-pardons-to-73-individuals-and-commutes-another-70-sentences-steve-bannon-is-included\/\" title=\"BREAKING: President Trump Gives Pardons to 73 Individuals and Commutes Another 70 Sentences \u2013 Steve Bannon Is Included\">grand jury investigation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Grassley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/anti-trump-fbi-agent-responsible-opening-jack-smith-elector-case-against-president-whistleblower\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">warned<\/a> former Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2022 that both Thibault and Pilger were &ldquo;deeply involved in the decisions to open and pursue election-related investigations against President Trump.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>In a 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.grassley.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/CEG%20to%20DOJ%20FBI%20(WFO).pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to Garland and former FBI Director Christopher Wray, Grassley stated that Thibault &ldquo;likely violated several federal regulations and Department guidelines designed<br \/>to prevent political bias from infecting FBI matters&rdquo; and had &ldquo;demonstrated a pattern of active public partisanship.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">letter noted multiple public instances<\/a> of Thibault&rsquo;s animosity toward Trump, including reposting a Lincoln Project post with the statement, &ldquo;Donald Trump is a psychologically broken, embittered, and deeply unhappy man.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Grassley mentioned the emails in his opening statement during the Senate Judiciary Committee&rsquo;s hearing on the nomination of Kash Patel to serve as director of the FBI, going through a timeline of Thibault&rsquo;s push to open an investigation &mdash; for which he was not authorized &mdash; and to include Trump.<\/p>\n<p>According to emails released by Grassley and Johnson, Thibault sent the &ldquo;opening language&rdquo; that turned into the Jack Smith elector case. He subsequently sent an email to D.C. U.S. Attorney&rsquo;s Office prosecutor John Crabb stating, &ldquo;I had a discussion with the case team and we believe there to be predication to include former President of the United States Donald J. Trump as a predicated subject.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>After getting Trump and others added as criminal subjects of the case, Thibault responded in another email, &ldquo;Perfect.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The document for including Trump was based on information from &ldquo;liberal nonprofit American Oversight,&rdquo; whistleblowers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/grassley-johnson-accuse-garland-ignoring-trump-special-counsels-conflicts-dojs-double-standard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told<\/a> Grassley in late 2022, adding that Thibault and Pilger later &ldquo;removed or watered-down material connected to the aforementioned left-wing entities that existed in previous versions and recommended that a full investigation &mdash; not a preliminary investigation &mdash; be approved.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Grassley demanded the production of all records in how this case came to be in the Patel hearing Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The Thibault-Pilger duo snowballed into the oversight of lawfare artist Jack Smith &mdash; the man responsible for going after Trump in two bogus cases.<\/p>\n<p>This particular case, regarding whether Trump or other officials attempted to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power on Jan. 6, 2021, fizzled out after Trump&rsquo;s election. But Smith angrily released a report on his case, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/15\/propaganda-press-wants-you-to-believe-trump-is-guilty-because-jack-smith-said-so\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">attempting to claim<\/a> that he would have been successful in a prosecution had Trump not been elected. <\/p>\n<p>In the very same report, he <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/15\/jack-smiths-report-proves-the-media-were-always-lying-about-j6-insurrection\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">explained<\/a> why no one had actually been charged for &ldquo;insurrection&rdquo; &mdash; the buzzword of the corporate media for four years.
