The black box, wich records cockpit actions and conversations, is critical for understanding the circumstances surrounding\u2064 the crash. NTSB chairwoman\u200c Jennifer Homendy stated that recovery is a priority, and \u200dwhile the device is underwater, similar recoveries have been conducted in the\u2062 past. A preliminary report \u200con the findings \u2063is expected within 30 \u200cdays. <\/p>\n<p>The NTSB&#8217;s focus will initially be on recovery efforts\u200c before investigating the cause of the crash. Reports indicate\u200b that staffing at the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/donald-trumps-plane-makes-emergency-landing-after-new-orleans-speech\/\" title=\"Donald Trump\u2019s Plane Makes Emergency Landing After New Orleans Speech\">air traffic control tower<\/a> \u2063was\u2063 below normal, with one controller managing both local aircraft and helicopter traffic instead of the usual two, a situation that\u200c the NTSB has not \u2064yet confirmed. In previous plane crashes, black boxes have given investigators clues into how or why the flight went down.&nbsp;They are meant to survive plane crashes and can reveal what happened in a flight&rsquo;s final moments.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We have not recovered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/former-clinton-and-obama-official-dies-after-jet-turbulence-incident\/\" title=\"Former Clinton and Obama Official Dies After Jet Turbulence Incident\">flight data recorders<\/a> yet. We know they&rsquo;re there. They are underwater. This is not unusual for the NTSB. (AP Photo\/Stephanie Scarbrough)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She added that the NTSB &ldquo;plans to release a report of their preliminary findings within 30 days.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The NTSB will focus on recovery efforts before the investigation into the cause of the crash begins. Homendy said 50 NTSB crew members were at the crash site as of Thursday but that they will first &ldquo;allow the responders to do their important safety mission, which in this case was search and rescue and recovery.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We stand back to allow them to do their important safety mission,&rdquo; Homendy added.<\/p>\n<p>Staffing at the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan National Airport was &ldquo;not normal,&rdquo; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2025\/01\/29\/us\/plane-crash-washington-dc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">according<\/a> to a preliminary FAA report obtained by several outlets. The controller was reportedly handling both local planes and helicopter traffic, a job which is usually handled by two people. The Reagan National Control Tower is 85% staffed, according to CNN.<\/p>\n<p>However, the NTSB said they could not confirm the preliminary FAA report.<\/p>\n<p>NTSB member Todd Inman additionally said the agency will brief the victims&rsquo; families later on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\"><strong><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We normally try to do this before media events, but in this case, they&rsquo;re still arriving,&rdquo; he said. &ldquo;Our family assistance specialists are already working closely with local officials and others to help assist them in their efforts to support everyone that&rsquo;s affected by this accident.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Our heart-filled sorrow goes out to everyone that&rsquo;s affected,&rdquo; Inman continued. &ldquo;It affects us, affects everyone around us.
