Staff\u2063 members are\u2063 advised to meet ICE officials at the\u200b entrances of school \u2064buildings, request to keep \u200bthem outside, and to gather identification and documentation\u2062 from the officers.<\/p>\n<p>The memo emphasizes that staff should not interfere physically with ICE\u200d officers but\u2064 should seek direction\u2063 from school administration and legal counsel. They are also instructed to inform the Student Services director and the guardians of any affected students. \u2064The directive follows the end of a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">long-standing policy<\/a>\u200b that protected\u2062 schools and churches from immigration arrests. They are there to do their job, and I&rsquo;m there to do mine.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>PUSD employees were instructed to meet the ICE officer at the building entrance, request that the officer remain outside the building, and ask for the officer&rsquo;s name, ID, his or her supervisor&rsquo;s phone number, the reason for visiting the school, and documentation such as a subpoena or warrant.<\/p>\n<p>During this process, administrators are instructed to &ldquo;obtain guidance from district administration under legal counsel,&rdquo; notify the Student Services director, and contact the legal guardians of the student or students in question.<\/p>\n<p>The document says staff should not take action until they &ldquo;obtain clear instructions from district administration&rdquo; but advises them not to &ldquo;physically attempt to interfere&rdquo; if the ICE officer &ldquo;fails to comply with your instructions.&rdquo; In that event, they are told to &ldquo;obtain as much information as possible from the officer,&rdquo; notify the Student Services director, and &ldquo;make notes of the officer&rsquo;s actions.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Obtained by the Washington Examiner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to a PUSD staff member, the document dated Monday, Jan. 27, was &ldquo;given to the entire district&rdquo; and their colleagues received it on Wednesday, Jan. 29.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of Trump&rsquo;s second inauguration, his administration ended a policy that prevented ICE and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents from making arrests at schools and churches. The previous guidance was in place for over a decade.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This action empowers the brave men and women in CBP and ICE to enforce our immigration laws and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-allows-ice-to-arrest-illegal-immigrants-at-schools-and-churches-washington-examiner\/\" title=\"Trump allows ICE to arrest illegal immigrants at schools and churches - Washington Examiner\">catch criminal aliens &#038;mdash<\/a>; including murderers and rapists &mdash; who have illegally come into our country.
