Senate Republicans may utilize the senate Intelligence Committee’s authority to push her nomination to a floor vote if she does not ‍advance through the committee, where⁤ some members⁢ are uncertain about her. Typically, a nominee must receive‌ a favorable committee vote before reaching the Senate ⁤floor, but Chairman⁤ Tom Cotton could opt to expedite‌ the process. Senate Majority Leader John Thune expressed reluctance to bypass the committee’s vote, noting the ideal scenario‌ is to ⁢have a nominee come out with committee support. Despite some hard-core ⁢conservative backing for Gabbard, concerns⁢ arise from her past comments about ⁢russia and othre ‍controversial positions, making her confirmation uncertain, especially among skeptical Republican senators. Gabbard’s confirmation hearing is scheduled for Thursday, with Cotton assuring that it will be thorough and fair.

Wobbly confidence in Gabbard confirmation forces Senate leaders to get creative

Senate Republicans may use the Senate Intelligence Committee’s power to force director of national intelligence nominee Tulsi Gabbard to a floor vote if she can’t pass through the committee.

There are several Republicans on the committee who have uncertain views on Gabbard, and only one would need to vote “no” to stall her nomination.

Normally, a nominee would have to pass through committee before reaching a floor vote, but committee Chairman Tom Cotton (R-AR) could elect to force her through.
