He has brought\u2064 in a new\u200b legal team from\u2063 the prestigious firm Sullivan and Cromwell\u2064 to represent him \u2064in this \u200bcase.The appeal stems from a \u200bconviction\u2063 involving 34 counts of falsifying business records. Trump&#8217;s\u200c lead\u2062 attorney, Robert Giuffra, emphasized\u200d the meaning of the case for the rule of law\u200d and warned that\u2063 the\u200d prosecution represents a risky precedent.<\/p>\n<p>Previously,\u2064 trump&#8217;s former attorneys transitioned \u2063to prominent roles in his\u2062 governance, while Boris Epshteyn continues to\u200d coordinate \u200bhis legal\u200c strategy. trump&#8217;s new team will also handle ongoing appeals\u2064 in a civil\u2062 fraud case where \u200dhe \u200dhas been ordered to pay $454 million. Trump&rsquo;s appeal is important for the rule of law, New York&rsquo;s reputation as a global business, financial and legal center, as well as for the presidency and all public officials,&rdquo; Giuffra said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The misuse of the criminal law by the Manhattan DA to target President Trump sets a dangerous precedent, and we look forward to the case being dismissed on appeal,&rdquo; he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/top-law-firm-sullivan-cromwell-represent-trump-ongoing-legal-matters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">told<\/a> Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Giuffra will be joined by four other <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">high-profile attorneys &#038;mdash<\/a>; Matthew Schwartz, James McDonald, Jeffrey Wall, and Morgan Ratner &mdash; all former Supreme Court clerks with extensive appellate litigation experience.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shake-up in Trump&rsquo;s legal team<\/h2>\n<p>The move to Sullivan and Cromwell comes as Trump&rsquo;s previous attorneys, Todd Blanche and Emil Bove, transition to key roles in his administration. John Sauer, another former Trump attorney, has been tapped to serve as solicitor general.<\/p>\n<p>Boris Epshteyn, a longtime Trump legal adviser, will remain in his role as senior counsel, coordinating the president&rsquo;s legal strategy across multiple cases.<\/p>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s new team will also handle his appeals in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-legal-and-political-jeopardy-an-interview-with-former-federal-prosecutor-andrew-mccarthy\/\" title=\"Interview with ex-Federal Prosecutor Andrew McCarthy on Trump&#039;s legal and political risks.\">civil fraud case brought<\/a> by New York Attorney General Letitia James. That case resulted in a $454 million judgment against Trump and his business empire, which remains pending before a New York appeals court.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Appeal process and legal uncertainty<\/h2>\n<p>Trump&rsquo;s legal team will now take their case to the Appellate Division, First Department &mdash; the same court that rejected his pretrial appeals. However, with sentencing now complete, the appeals court will review the case in full.<\/p>\n<p>George Washington University Law School professor Jonathan Turley <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JonathanTurley\/status\/1884652752044695710\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">posted<\/a> on X: &ldquo;The appeal of Trump&rsquo;s criminal conviction has finally begun with the filing of the notice of appeal today.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;While expectations are not particularly high for relief in the NY court system, this process moves the case closer to an appeal to the Supreme Court,&rdquo; Turley added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump managed to delay his sentencing until after the election, and Judge Juan Merchan sentenced him to an unconditional discharge &mdash; imposing no jail time, fines, or probation.
