Kennedy Jr. prepares for his Senate confirmation hearings to become the next secretary of health and human services, one issue will be impossible to avoid: abortion and abortion pills. <\/p>\n<p>The removal of Food and Drug Administration safety measures on the pill during Covid lockdowns, including the in-person visit and follow-up care requirement, has created significant risks for women, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/aul.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/AUL-FDA-LETTER_REMS_Final.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-hawley-says-biden-abortion-policies-are-an-insult\/\" title=\"Sen. Hawley says Biden abortion policies are an insult\">pro-life groups<\/a><\/a>&nbsp;are urging the reinstatement of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/post-flight-inspection-makes-shocking-discovery-on-boeing-plane-that-just-carried-145-people\/\" title=\"Shocking Findings Revealed During Post-Flight Check on Boeing Aircraft After Carrying 145 Passengers\">critical safety measures<\/a>. RFK Jr. has the opportunity to answer this question responsibly and wisely, taking a common-sense approach that protects women&rsquo;s health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2 d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-554222262\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Since the reversal of&nbsp;<em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>&nbsp;in 2022, abortion advocates have accelerated efforts to distribute abortion pills online, taking advantage of the removal of longstanding FDA safety protocols &mdash; known as Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategies (REMS) &mdash; during the Covid-19 pandemic. This deregulation allows the abortion drug mifepristone to be obtained without medical evaluations to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fda-aids-bidens-abortion-for-all-agenda-by-letting-pharmacies-sell-dangerous-abortion-pill\/\" title=\"FDA Aids Biden&#039;s Abortion-For-All Program By Letting Drug Stores Offer Dangerous Abortion Tablet\">confirm gestational age<\/a>, rule out ectopic pregnancies, or identify high-risk conditions. The result? Women are left vulnerable to life-threatening complications.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Abortion pills are not benign. The FDA itself <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/drugs\/postmarket-drug-safety-information-patients-and-providers\/questions-and-answers-mifepristone-medical-termination-pregnancy-through-ten-weeks-gestation#:~:text=As%20of%20December%2031%2C%202024,several%20fatal%20cases%20of%20severe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acknowledges<\/a> severe risks, including hemorrhage, sepsis, and even death, with some 36 fatalities linked to the drug mifepristone. Tragically, these dangers are not theoretical. One tragic example is the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/09\/20\/amber-thurman-died-from-the-abortion-pill-not-pro-life-laws\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">death of Amber Nicole Thurman<\/a>, a mother of twins, who died after taking abortion pills she obtained without a follow-up visit. Had REMS protocols been in place, Amber&rsquo;s abortion facility could have identified and quickly treated the complications she suffered from the drug, and her life might have been saved.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The incoming administration has an opportunity to restore critical medical safeguards. RFK Jr.&nbsp;may be uniquely positioned to address this issue. Known for challenging regulatory failures, Kennedy could reinstate REMS for abortion pills and enact further requirements ensuring the collection of accurate safety data on these drugs, prioritizing women&rsquo;s health over ideological agendas.<\/p>\n<p>By requiring medical oversight for abortion pills, the federal government would take a bipartisan step to protect women from avoidable harm. Reinstating REMS would not ban the abortion pill but ensure it is used with the same safety standards applied to other high-risk drugs.<\/p>\n<p>Even pro-abortion advocates should recognize the necessity of such safeguards. Forcing women to navigate severe complications alone, without diagnostic tests or proper care, is not health care &mdash; it&rsquo;s recklessness. If Kennedy leads this charge, he could bridge the divide on a contentious issue by demonstrating that women&rsquo;s safety transcends politics.<\/p>\n<p>The deregulation of abortion pills reflects a dangerous prioritization of ideology over health. If RFK Jr. or any other future leader of HHS reinstates essential safeguards, it could save lives without potentially infringing on states&rsquo; rights or individual choices.<\/p>\n<p>Protecting women&rsquo;s health should be a shared goal, regardless of one&rsquo;s position on abortion.
