margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-131444800\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1463670073398-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Blanding recorded the incident wherein the driver denied service, claiming the car was too small and that her weight would bear too much of a burden on the tires. Several states and cities have begun to consider laws similar to one&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2023\/05\/27\/new-york-city-mayor-makes-obesity-a-protected-class\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passed<\/a>&nbsp;in New York City in 2023 to declare obesity a legally protected class, opening the door to more lawsuits similar to Blanding&rsquo;s. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-12845863\/Fat-Pride-America-culture-One-six-deaths-linked-obesity-liberal-states-banning-fatphobia-discrimination-law.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to the Daily Mail, Michigan was the first state to &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3YuVZYV\">ban workplace weight discrimination&#038;rdquo<\/a>; in 1969.<\/p>\n<p>In December, Jae&rsquo;lynn Chaney, a &ldquo;fat liberation activist&rdquo; whose&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2025\/01\/09\/pro-obesity-activist-sponsored-by-mcdonalds-plans-operation-fat-liberation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate partners<\/a>&nbsp;include Walmart and McDonald&rsquo;s, went viral for demanding airplanes be redesigned to include larger seats because &ldquo;airlines make their product smaller every year.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"> <span class=\"kzObZwUWsxXfugBSYTihNHIJ3rdECGaqplD0752tveR\"><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Plus size traveler launches petition to demand that the FAA provides bigger seats for overweight passengers, says the seats &ldquo;keep getting smaller.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Jae&rsquo;lynn Chaney is lashing out at airlines for blaming fat people for not fitting on their planes. <\/p>\n<p>Chaney thinks that the seat&hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/dpUQRoJUEZ\">pic.twitter.com\/dpUQRoJUEZ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CollinRugg\/status\/1870131792855916690?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 20, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/span> <\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Chaney launched an online&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/demand-for-the-faa-to-protect-plus-size-travelers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">petition<\/a>&nbsp;demanding the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mandate changes &ldquo;to protect plus-size travelers&rdquo; which has gathered nearly 40,000 signatures. In 2021, the FAA&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/06\/11\/too-fat-to-fly-faa-updates-guidelines-as-american-obesity-crisis-grows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">required<\/a>&nbsp;airlines to recalibrate safety guidelines for aircraft weight to adapt for larger passengers and heavier luggage in the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>The prevalence of global obesity has more than doubled between 1990 and 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/obesity-and-overweight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">according <\/a>to the World Health Organization, with 2.5 billion adults 18 and older considered obese in 2022.
